You'll also appreciate that eliminating sweet things from your diet (or cutting back, at the very least), will aid weight loss. If that's not enough to keep you from reaching into the cookie jar, you may be interested to learn that many experts believe that sugar can also speed skin aging; leading to dullness and wrinkles.  

The process thought to be responsible for skin's woes is known as glycation. This occurs when the sugar in your bloodstream attaches to proteins resulting in the formation of advanced glycation end products (or AGEs for short). AGEs start to damage proteins like collagen and elastin which are responsible for keeping skin firm and elastic. Once they are damaged, skin becomes wrinkled and saggy.  And these aging effects of sugar start around age 35.  

The glycation process also converts healthy collagen into collagen that is more fragile. Skin will start to loose its suppleness. AGEs also deactivate the protective ability of your body's antioxidant enzymes, which help to protect you from sun damage.

1. Reduce sugar consumption, especially ingredients like high fructose corn syrup. Watch carbohydrate consumption; even whole grains, fruits and vegetables turn to glucose, which contributes to glycation.
