    • I’ve been in perimenopause for awhile but the flashes started last month on my vacation. There I was on Orcas Island with everyone around me in polar fleece and I was in a tank top and shorts.

They come in waves like contractions. They come at the most inopportune times like in the middle of a conversation with a stranger. My face flushes, beads of sweat form on my forhead and bridge of my nose. It’s awful. I’ve been on and off bio identical hormones and they have given me some relief. I was just about to order some more and found out that my doctor passed away a week or so ago.

I’m at square one and I will certainly share any information I get on the subject as I start the search again for relief.

You‘re right there with many of us! We can all help one another through this.

    • Oh, do these comments bring back memories (bad ones)! I suffered for more than a year (they get progressively WORSE, by the way). It got to the point where I was having a couple of hot flashes every hour. I kept both a fan and a sweater at my desk at all times (at home, it was an afghan) because the hot flash would make me sweat - then I would start freezing when it was over. I don’t think I had a good night’s rest during the whole ordeal. I finally gave in and asked my GYN for help. He put me on a hormone patch. I had a hysterectomy in my 20s, so mine is just estrogen. The possible side effect is an increased risk of breast cancer, so we keep the dose as low as possible. The hot flashes were completely GONE within just a couple of days. What a relief! My heart goes out to every one of you that is going through this - it can be pure hell!

    • I’ve been here a long time too, but lately I’ve gained control over the intensity. I found myself experimenting to keep from having to take anything prescribed.  Exercise, if just walking, soy products, lots more water and vitamins.

    • Thank you very much ladies for sharing your thoughts and insight.  I’ve been trying to avoid HRT for years but I think I can’t postpone the inevitable any longer (especially if I want to save my marriage and be a good mother to my teenagers!)

      Hugs to all!
