The fashion style of the 2009 holidays can be summed up in two words: effortless chic. Use these tips to look glamourous, yet be comfortable during your holiday dinners and events.
In the next couple weeks it's all about putting a look together that is elegant and head turning not for its extravagance or over the top features, but for its simplicity and attention to details.

This goes for makeup as well as hair.  Top stylists suggest light, shimmery nude tones and fun, bright colored eye makeup with fake eyelashes or heavy mascara.  As for the hair trend of the season: buns.

To clarify, a messy bun, not a tight, industrial hair bun meant to stay well out of your face.  Instead, there are two favorites of stylists: the double bun and the romantic side bun.  Here are some directions for each.

The Side Bun

1.You'll need a mostly full head of curls to make this look complete.  To do this, section your hear into four even parts, and curl smaller sections of each part into ringlets.  When finished, with your fingers gently brush through the curls to separate slightly—don't use a brush!

2.If you like the look, leave one strand of curls trailing down next to your face.  Next, pull your curls into a ponytail and secure it with a plastic, transparent tie that won't break your hair (ask about these at the counter of your local beauty shop).

3.Take about a quarter of your ponytail and loosely wrap it around the base of the ponytail and secure with bobby pins.  Do the same with the next piece.

4.The third piece you're only going to wrap about half way, in a loop similar to a support the troops bumper sticker.  The loop's ends should point down towards your neck.  Do the same with the last piece.  You want the look to stay semi-messy and touchable.

5.The last step is to add some holiday spice to your hair, with a crystal hairpiece to get maximum shine, or pins with snowflakes or anything festive-like.

The Double Bun

1.Start by making two ponytails: one on top of your head and one on the bottom.  Run your fingers through the hair on the top of your head and pull up slightly at the crown of your head.  The last thing you want is a flat, pulled look.

2.Twist pieces of hair around base of ponytail until they almost completely loop around.  Do this with the remaining pieces of hair so that you're left with little rosettes that make up the bigger bun.

3.Repeat the same directions with the bottom ponytail and finish off the look with decorative hairpieces as described above.  And don't sweat it if you have fly away's; remember, this isn't supposed to be "perfect," it should look put together but not glued down.
