Health is the condition of wisdom, and the sign is cheerfulness — an open and noble temper.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Most people understand our emotions have a lot to do with our health, Chinese medicine tells you how:

Over joy hurts heart; sadness hurts lungs; anger hurts liver; worry and too much thinking hurts spleen, and fear hurts kidneys.

Joy can relax the body and makes the body energy flow normally inside, is really a good emotion. But over joy or bursting joy will suddenly raise the heart beat rate causing heart failure or loss of mind.

Sadness blocks the lung energy, that's why people feel tight chest even difficulty to breathe when in deep sorrow.

Anger makes liver energy and blood surge upward, causing dizziness, pain on the rib areas and other problems. That's why a person's face turns into red when he's angry. If a person's liver are not working properly, he is either very easy to get angry or become depressed.

Thinking or worry too much hurts the spleen causing loss of sleep, stomach bloating, forgetfulness etc.

Fear shakes the kidney energy. Severe horror can make a person loss the control of both urination and defecation.

However, our body is an organized whole, a properly working organ relies on the other organ's normal condition. We should always manage ourselves to stay calm and happy mood.
