How to teach reading and not injuring child's psyche? How to generate child's interest and desire? If you actively play with the child using the book, it will be an easy task.

Remember about the formation of a child’s desire to learn reading: “How nice to be able to read, don't ask the mother and the grandmother...”

But the first bad experiences can delete all desire of reading. The child understands teaching of reading isn't so easy. Children can learn letters, but combine them into words and read and then understand that they have read. It is rather difficult! But gradually you will overcome this difficulty.

There are many methods of teaching of reading. But you have not to compel your child. Don't turn this process into an unpleasant duty, don't compare your child with a neighbor boy who reads long ago and don't scold, if the child makes mistake. Only it slows the process. Here the patience and love, consistency and imagination will help you. You can turn the training process into a holiday, an exciting game.

“The funny guys” In this game the letters are animated. The letters are friends and together they are a word. You can try to connect divided friends (letters) in any time. For example, we were doing it in the kitchen, in the bus, on the couch at home. And the child gets used to connect the letters in syllables, and then into words.

“Find the twins” – the child find the reading syllable in the printed text. This game will be more interesting, when the child find the syllable in the favorite book or in any newspaper, magazine. The kid understands that books are different, not only with beautiful illustrations. You must comments and praise for his achievements, then the child will play this game very often. You should pronounce the found syllables, so they are associated with one sound. Gradually the visual habituation to the form of syllables leads to an automatic connection of letters in syllables.


When a child has learned to connect the letters into the syllables and the words, you should continue to read aloud. Because till yet he read very slowly. In this period the child must feel your support.

Continue to read aloud to him and discuss the reading. Specially finish reading on the most interesting place and then suddenly remember about the housework. Sooner or later the child will try to read a book himself. You can provoke him on it, if he doesn't guess. Take an interest in the fate of the heroes of the book and be surprised that he still didn't finish it. And if he finished reading, you should praise him and ask to tell an interesting episode. Take an interest only genuinely. He should understand that it isn't a duty.

The main truth of the teaching is not to compel reading. Contrary you should offer this motivation: “If you tidy up your toys quicly, I’ll let you to read a little before going to bed.”

Reading is a knowledge, pleasure, and development. When you understand it, your son and daughter will understand it too!
