I can’t help but feel some empathy towards Elizabeth.  She is bright, energetic and stood by her man throughout his political career, even with faced with betrayal.  Who wouldn’t lash out, if they found that their man was found to be cheating with someone else?

It turns out that, whilst knowing that she was having breast cancer, he suddenly gave up on her; or, maybe, like most situations, it really wasn’t overnight but that the breast cancer event was just the excuse he needed to break away and move on.

It was sad that he didn’t even show up at her funeral; or, perhaps, it was just that her family didn’t want him anywhere around him after he had turned his back on her when she was in the most highest moment of need for his support, after all the years she had supported and believed in him.

What ever the case, I’m at work tonight and openned up the Austin American-Statesman’s Sunday paper (December 12, 2010) to the “Insight & Books” section, page D2, and saw Elizabeth Edward’s quote towards the bottom left of the page.  It states,

*"I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world, the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that I am grateful."*

*Elizabeth Edwards, wife of former presidential candidate, John Edwards, writing on her Facebook page on Monday. Edwards, 61, died Tuesday after a six-year battle with cancer.*

I think we can all take a lesson of gratitude and grace that she bestowed, even in the deepest of her suffering.

May she rest in peace.
