I’m taking a class this semester on human diversity and its rocking my world.  I thought I was fairly well educated on issues like this.  What I have discovered is that as a caucasian female, I have been oblivious to the enormity of what an issue this is.  My professor has assigned several videos for us to watch, in addition to many readings.  It has been a very hard assignment to get through.  Primarily because I never realized how ignorant I am.  These videos are not ones I would have chosen to watch.  When I watch movies, I like to escape into something pleasant, that makes me laugh, takes me away from the real world.  These movies (Crash, American X) have done anything but.  I had to literally turn away in parts of them.  Living in a small town that I’ve lived in most of my life, I’ve been fairly sheltered from the violence of racism and the intensity of the hatred.  Even though I live in the south I just had not realized how intensely people can hate others.

I encourage anyone who reads this to take a look at these movies for themselves. I’d love to hear your views...

You are absolutely right, when we watch movies we want to escape and usually settle for something fun and pleasant.

There are few other movies that made an impact on me

      East and West

      Life is Beautiful

And there was one more, but my brain just refuses to think of the name.

      Thanks for sharing.
