Well I had my surgical consult today and i am so relieved. March 22, 2012 is the day I finally get my neck fixed! The surgeon is going to remove 3 possibly 4 discs that are compressing my spinal cord which is causing me much pain and has almost left me bed/chair ridden at this point. I am extremely unsteady on my feet and my right arm cannot pick things up, the left is now losing strength as well. My right leg is not good either from my hip on down. I am not even going to go into the severe pain and discomfort it has me in constantly at this point. I hear there is immediate relief with this surgery so I am actually looking forward to it at this point. The discs will be replaced with my own vertebral bone and synthetics and screwed and plated into place. They will be removing the discs between c3&4, 4&5, 5&6 and possibly 6&7 where there is slight compression but removing the others may remove that impingement. There are several bone spurs as well and my neck has not only completely straightened out ( cervical lordosis) but is actually curving backward ( reverse lordosis). I will only be in the hospital 2 days. There will be a 12 week recovery period before i can lift, go back to work and just resume all normal activity. One thing i actually will lose is a lot of range of motion in my neck but when this is all flared up I dont have much range anyway . This was my 3rd opinion...I appreciate everyone’s concern and prayers . I am settled with , comfortable with and confident in the doctors I have and their opinions. I have total faith in all of this..I saw my MRI and had it explained frame by frame. The doc said rarely does he take one look and say surgery, but i am slowly being crippled by myelopathy and there’s no reason to continue trying conservative efforts, it is a structural condition that can be arrested with this procedure. I’m going for it! 19 days to relief! Thank God!
