My medical problems with my feet have been a big issue the last couple of years...About 2 1/2 yrs ago I began having problems with my feet...it got worse and worse as time went by...the final result was that I couldn’t walk at all...

The last couple of years I have been on social assistance and barely making it...prior to that I was a cook in an oil rig camp and making 3500 dollars a month and was doing pretty good...so it has been a hard two years...adjusting to my finances and lifestyle changes...

A couple of months ago I decided to try applying for disability and went through the process of seeing a doctor who eventually diagnosed me with severe arthritis and a probable need for a knee replacement (providing I lose weight).

I finally sent out my application on March 3rd...and you would not believe what happened today...well today I received a phone call that surprised the sh*t outta me....my application has been accepted...I was shocked as I had only sent it out a couple of weeks ago...usually the intake process is 2 to 4 months...not 2 weeks...

I am soooo happy and grateful for this...the extra money is going to help me out quite a bit...I am not sure how much I will be getting yet...but it will be better than the 237.00 for personal needs and 349.00 for rent...I am fortunate to be in low cost housing otherwise I would not have been able to do it...I am also fortunate for all the resources available to low-income folks like me...I’ve had to also utilize food banks and whatever other resources that were available to me...

Today I am feeling great and nothing is going to bring me down....Thank you God for looking out for me...

    • I am so glad for you Karyn. With what I just went thru and am still going thru with this broken foot, I know how bad it hurts when your feet hurt.
I was afraid I would have to apply for disability as well, but so far I am able to work without too much pain.
I am so glad to hear that you got the answer you were hoping for. See...good things DO happen to good people!! YEA!!

    • That’s great news, and I so happy for you.  We get things exactly when we need them huh?  Even if we don’t think so, it is true.

      Congrats!

    • I know what you mean Karyn. Several years ago I twisted the wrong way at work and felt something snap in my foot. It wasn't broken because I could still walk so I ignored it. I did not go to the doctor because I was trying to work my way up in the company. With time though it got worse. When I press on the foot I can feel the clicking still. The one foot hurt so bad I must have babied it and overworked the other foot because when I try to walk or stand for more than ½ an hour the bottoms of my feet are so sore it feels like I am standing on beehives. I went to the doctor and he said it was some weird name a long word that started with an S and that it was genetic. I do not know what it is but I do know it bugs me so. I have always been a hard worker and very active person. So this is very nerve racking. I am also getting fat because I can't walk far.

Because I can no longer do the physical work I used to do and did for 20 years...I went to school for graphic design but no one is hiring so I am going back again for something else (we have to see as we go along) and hopefully will fine gainful employment when finished. Sorry about the rant but I sure can relate. The worst part for me is I feel like I lost my independence. My bf supports me. I can not afford a doctor so I'm just trying to take care of myself. God bless you my friend and take care, Faye
