I signed the lease on my new commercial space today. When it’s all finished it will be my chocolate production kitchen and my partner who makes wonderful wedding cakes is going to join me and share my rent - that’s a blessing!

I’m nervous which is only natural but I’m also so very lucky. For anyone who has ever had a business and rented space, take a look at this:

The owner of the building is allowing me to go month to month with no increase in rent for a year at least but most likely two years.

He’s saving a small 250 sq ft space next door for 6 months in case I want to rent it for an office.

My electricity will be a flat $75 a month unless I use an exhorbitant amount of electricity

I have central air conditioning

The place is already plumbed for my sinks and water heater

The building went through extensive renovation a couple of years ago and is in very good condition

There are several other food related busineses in the building so it will be a draw

The drawback is I spent a little more per sq ft than much of the property on the island but weighing the costs, I would have spent thousands getting another space set up for production.

So, I just spoke with the county permit office. Before I can do anything in that space I must have all my permits in place. I’ll be in the county office first thing in the morning. The positive thing about all that is, the owner of the building has given me a slight repreive on the commencement date of the rent until my permits come in.

When I logged on this morning and saw all the encouraging comments on yesterday’s blog, I cried happy tears. Thank you so much! It meant a lot to me.

Love it
