Remember, my crush asked me to lunch?  The way he asked was odd as ever.  He is a director at the company I work for, so I guess he was trying to keep it professional.  He calls my extension and says, “You want to go to lunch as coworkers...strictly professional.  I just want to have lunch with a coworker. This is not an overture.”  Weird, right?  So I reply, “Sure as long as it is professional, lunch would be fine.”

We have lunch at a cute little japanese restaurant not far from the job.  The conversation starts off about work then toward the end of our meal I say, “I have something to show you that has nothing to do with work.”  The biggest smile comes on his face.  I show him my new diver certification card and you could have bottled and sold his excitement. Then we start this question and answer session.  He wants to know my sign.  I asked him his.  I asked him why at 48 he has never been married.  He asked me how long have I been divorced.  I asked him where has he lived before. He asked me the same.  He lived in Turkey and Japan. I lived in Manchester, England and Amsterdam. The lunch ended too quickly. He rushes to take care of the bill before I could touch the check.

We’ve gone to lunch a few other times. More questions and answer sessions and now I believe that we have both told too much to each other.  Me about my ex-husband; ex-boyfriend and he about his ex-girlfriends...still maintaining  “we are just coworkers“.

We plan a dive trip President’s Day weekend. Four whole days diving, living in close quarters on a boat...and a lot of alone time. We are both excited.  We both love diving and I get a sense that something is in fact boiling between us.  All last week that is all the two of us could talk about, until Wednesday. That night our dive planner calls me...the dive is canceled due to forecasted weekend storms.  My heart sinks.

The next day I am in the lunch room and my crush walks in and says, "Are you ready for this weekend?"  I had to give him the bad news...the weekend... our weekend was cancelled.frown

No biggie, right? We can just reschedule, right?  Wrong, I am having surgery next Friday and I will be physically down for more than six weeks (I am having fibroids removed and may have to have a hysterectomy).  Maybe I will have lunch with him before I leave, but that may not happen.  We have both had busy schedules lately.  That was one reason why the dive weekend was so important.  But the killer, I have been seriously reconsidering not returning to my job.  Didn’t the Universe speak?..to be continued?

The dolphins that swim along the boat.
