Technology is not only affecting our lives, but it is actually interfering with our romance. If you are raising your eyebrows, read on.

According to an on-line survey commissioned by Intel and polled by Harris Interactive of 2119 adults, 46 percent  of women would give up intercourse for two weeks in exchange for having access to the Internet for the same period of time. The age of the women played a role in the survey. Fifty-two percent of women between 35-44 would give up blogging compared to 49 percent of those between the ages of 18-34.

While our partners will not be thrilled with the outcome of this survey, men are not immune from the "web disease" either. 39 percent of men between the ages of 35-44 would give up sex for two weeks and swap it for the Internet. Numbers decline to 23 percent for men between the ages of 18-34.

Intel is in the business of selling microprocessors that are built-in to our computers. Its motive behind this survey was to establish the importance of the Internet and everyone's addiction to it, and not to provide insight into modern sexual behavior.

However, we have to face the fact that the results are not very sexy.

p.s. Would like to hear your thoughts on the survey.

    • Give up sex for the internet? Are they crazy??? I have a suspicion that Intel may be biased in this topic and the results may not be 100% accurate. I’d love to see an independent study of this. Sex is the greatest pleasure in the world!!!

    • I guess the outcome of the survey depends on a lot of variables. If I had a stimulating mate I’m sure I would turn off the laptop, but as it is right now I can trade.

    • It’s not likely I would pass up sex for the internet. However on those days when you feel blah and the hormones kick in to make you feel not your best..... the internet is a great way to share those blahs with people who understand.

    • As addicted as I am to my website and my blogging and networking and everything, it still rides shotgun to my marriage and all the benefits therein. It’s all about balance.

In my opinion, folks who are willing to forego intimacy for internet have much bigger issues!

    • YAY!! I’m so glad to see these answers. Phew. I’m not alone. I am online a lot but once Mr H is here, the blackberry and the laptop are off. No way, no how would I give up intimate time with him! I have plenty of time for my computer—he’s got a demanding and busy job. So, when we are together, there’s no room for a laptop between us. Even if the kids are all up and about, we‘re still together without a computer.
And twice a week? Give it up twice a week? If I gave it up twice a week I’d still average 4-5 days of the good stuff...but still, no way.

    • Yes..I agree there are many variables that come into play with those stats...I for one would never trade in the touch of my husbands strong warm hands to touch some keys on my laptop..sorry...There is a time and a place for everything like Jenz said...I can blog and surf when he’s not around, or sleeping..and if I happen to be online when he’s around it’s simply because baby boy is still awake..and nothing intimate can happen when he’s still up...tongue out
