I know that unemployment is up and jobs are not as available as they once were but I am doing everything I can think of and I am not getting hired. I have brushed up on my interviewing skills, I have redone my resume. I have some really good references, including the public school system that I recently did a temp job for. The woman I was working with wanted to hire me but there is a hiring freeze. I don’t know what else to do. I have signed up with several temp agencies. I have told the agent at the temp agency that got me the school job that I can be ready to go at any time as long as I have 24 hours notice to give my babysitter. She acted like that was a problem. They require me to give them 48 hours notice when I am going to leave an assignment, I think 24 hours notice is fair. I realize that there are those who will go at a moments notice but I have my grand daughter and that isn’t an option. All I know is that if I don’t find something soon it is going to be really bad for me.frown

    • Sorry to hear you‘re having so much trouble finding work.   I know the feeling as I was in that spot last winter.  It’s depressing to say the least.

What kind of work are you looking for?  Maybe if jobs are scarce, you need to branch out and look at a different type of job?

    • I agree with Tuliplady about branching out.  I’m in the retail world and there is no shortage of open positions. A lot depends on what you‘re looking for. That will set your boundaries.

Have you posted your resume on the millions of job search site like monster or indeed? Are you on LinkedIn? Have you looked on Craig’s list( be careful tho)? Who knows that your looking?

Go outside of what you normally do.

    • Last winter when I was out of a job, I found out that jobs are not scarce at all in my area.  I found out I am just pretty picky about the job I was willing to do.  The best paying job in my area is cashiering at the truck stop. I’m not a people person so I took a job further from home for less pay.

    • Good ideas from Vikki and Tulip..are you interested in office work?..or retail?  How about some type of work helping the elderly or even baby-sitting?  I am hoping down the road to work two days a week, keeping my fingers crossed.

Good wishes with the job hunting.happy

    • How about an online business? A lady that I view on youtube is very successful in selling jewelry and clothing.  She also sells at flea markets etc. What’s your passion? Do you have a craft? Maybe you can be an entreprenuer in starting your own online business and also have the opportunity to remain home with your granddaughter.
My prayers are with you in your quest to find a job.
