I have been blogging for years and receiving mentions in the Sun Times and Reuters. I’ve been told that I should be grateful because usually that only happens to “a name“.

My blog[Link Removed] has a decent readership, but apparently not the numbers that it takes to get the attention of the big boys.

This is really sad. Some of the editorials that I’ve read in the prints of record are pathetic. I mean seriously, who’s butt haven’t I kissed yet? If they can do it, what is really going on?

So I asked my agent. He said that I need to improve my feed numbers and site traffic. I have no idea at this point, how to do that.  If anyone has a secret, could you let me in on it?

    • A good start would be to make sure you add your blog address to your signature and make sure all your friends at Fab40 have it.  Then we can frequent your site and that will definitely increase your site traffic!

    • As I’ve been learning, in addition to quality writing, you have to spread yourself as thin as you can manage, and then go just a little bit thinner... worried

—Join networks (like you‘re already doing) to gain friends and readers. Share ideas, ask for feedback, and build and maintain relationships that help to cultivate your goals

—Join/create common interest groups. If knitting is your niche (as an example), then obviously other knitting-minded folks should be at the top of your list. Look for existing groups, or start your own. Strive to offer something just a little bit different than what’s already out there

—Make use of tools such as facebook, twitter, stumbleupon, etc., to gain further exposure. Sometimes even the random exposure can garner long-term results.

—Become a good “blog friend“. One of the best ways to draw readers and commenters to your blog is to read and comment on others’ blogs on a regular basis.

All of the folks you gather in your wide-cast net will (basically) equal the readership you will need to bring to your column. It’s a lot of work, and won’t happen overnight, but the payoff is bound to be worth it.

    • I suggest another way is to put 1/3 or 1/2 of your blog using cut and paste here, then end with your link for continuation.  I guess I am a pimp by trait!happy

    • Make sure you have business cards made with your blog addy on it. Drop them in fishbowls, everytime you leave a tip somewhere leave your card, everytime you are introduced to someone hand them your card, those bullitin boards you see everywhere, ask friends to do the same thing and reward them with dinner or something.
      I wish you success!
