Casting is way easier

Having hand surgery is interesting.  All went well, considering it was surgery.

My husband took our grandsons across the street to see the Krispy Kreme Donut place.  Our intention was that they'd watch the donuts being made, have one and then come back for me.

You do know what they say about "best laid plans", right?

Steve got there and the place was so dead that instead of making donuts, the staff was cleaning the factory out.  So the boys got a paper hat, donut and milk.  And yes, in case you're wondering, that did make them "higher than kites".

Lucky us.

At the same time on my end, I went to check in and the receptionist informed me that "someone should have called you, your procedure was cancelled."

I just looked at him and said-"Excuse me, but I just did 6 week's worth of newspaper and magazine articles and sent my husband off with a 4 and 5 year old to have this done!  Let alone at $4.50 a gallon, the gas to get here and back is costing us upward of $20!  I want to get this done and over with-or at the very least, why no one bothered to inform me yesterday."

Guess what?  Turned out to be a computer glitch (I don't believe it, but I didn't care as long as I had the work done).

I was brought in for the worst part of the "procedure".  The doctor injected the palm of my hand, in the two spots necessary, with a one-two of lidicaine and Marcaine.  Let me tell you-THAT HURT LIKE HECK!

Then it was into the surgical room where I laid down on the surgical table and put my arm onto the work area.  They completely draped me to keep the room sterile.  I could feel the tugging and pulling, but thankfully nothing else.

15 minutes later, my thumb and index finger were stitched back up and bandaged.  I was kept in a waiting area for a few minutes and then they called to tell Steve I was ready for pick up.

Wham, Bam, thank you ma'am.

The ride home was really fun. The boys were wild from the donut.  Got home and had a ginger ale.

For some strange reason, my husband decided on BBQ'ing ribs for dinner.  That was fun.  Yeah, right.

For dessert I went for a combination of tramadol and Mobic, with a side of prescription anti-nausea meds.

Woke up the next day dizzy, nauseous and knowing I was going to puke.  The boys begged grandpa not to leave and to stay with us and take care of grandma.  They were thrilled to hear that Auntie Sam was coming to save the day.  Especially when I was going for the third round of both passing out and sick behavior.

Guess the prescription anti-nausea meds don't really work as much as what the rheumy thinks.

I was human by the time our daughter-in-law arrived, but I think I've scarred my grandsons for life.

When our daughter and son-in-law came home the next evening, the first thing the boys regaled them with was how grandma threw up 5 times.

Sigh, nothing about the dinosaur park, walking 3 dogs with Auntie Sam, chalk art, bubble blowing or drawing everyone's birthday cards-nope just grandma hand that made Aidan feel sick and grandma's head in a sink.

Can't say I don't provide fun entertainment for kids.
