DMAE (dimethylaminoehthanol), is a naturally occurring substance that facilitates the synthesis of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. It is often marketed as a facelift in a jar.

While studies have shown DMAE to improve memory when taken orally, another study has shown that it also has a tightening action on the skin when applied topically. Though the mechanism by which this works is unclear, this tightening may help to alleviate facial sag.  The study also concluded that DMAE possibly exerted an anti-inflammatory effect.

Users of DMAE products do experience a noticeable firming effect and some report a cumulative effect with continuing use of DMAE.

DMAE safety

A recent study has raised some concerns about DMAE causing damage to skin cells, but DMAE has been used widely since the 1990s and during that time there have been no negative reports.

Is DMAE right for you?

If you are experiencing facial sagging and would like to try a non-invasive way to rectify it, then DMAE may be worth your consideration. DMAE is found in serums, creams and lotions. One product that you may want to consider is UltimaSkin's new Alpha Lipoic Acid Lifting Serum which is formulated with Alpha Lipoic Acid, DMAE, Vitamin C and other effective anti-aging ingredients.
