For those curious readers, the poem entitled “LOVE“, came about rather unexpectedly. Here is how it all happened.

In 1995, I was invited to attend a poetry convention held in Washington, DC, by the International Society of Poets. It proved to be a wonderful experience for me, as there were several thousand poets in attendance. Each one of the poets was invited to contribute a piece of poetry to “The World’s Largest Poem For Peace.”

As I walked into the designated room, to my utter amazement, I was confronted with what appeared to be a scroll. A huge roll of paper had been extended across four tables that had been placed together, end to end. The paper was being unrolled at one end of the long table and rolled up at the other end, after the poets added their poetry to it.

Some of the poets were taping individual pieces of poetry to the paper. Others were copying their poems from sheets of paper they brought into the room, or from poetry collections they had compiled. I was surprised to see that some of them had poetry books of their own.

I was at a loss as to what to do, simply because I had not brought any of my poetry with me. Not knowing what to do, I simply wrote a new piece of poetry.

Several years later, I entitled it “LOVE“. More about that another time!
