Well today they officially announced the closing of our corporate office where I work.  I work for a major corporation who was purchased by our parent company just over three (3) years ago and they are finally consolidating a lot of the work and positions up to our parent company.  And this morning all of my coworkers were told that they are loosing their jobs.

This is affecting everyone across the entire corporate food chain from our receptionist to our CFO.  Luckily for me I just happen to work in the HQ building but I’m really part of the operations part of the company and thus I’m not directly effected by this other than the loose of some wonderful friends/coworkers.

Just curious as to how the rest of you would handle being the one “left behind” so to speak.  What words of encouragement would you give?  While I’m EXTREMELY thankful it’s not me I hurt for those being affected by this.  Thanks for you input!

    • Pamela, even though I’ve not been in your situation, I want to show you support in this. There must be a host of emotions surrounding this scenario. I’m sure relief and sadness are just two of them. Hang in there, as unfair as the whole thing is for your co-workers, and know that eventually everyone will be re absorbed into the work force; some of them may even land positions that give them more joy and satisfaction than the one they lost.

      Best to you
      Cynthia

    • That is a tough position to be in. I guess be supportive without being too much of a cheerleader. Hearing, “Oh, I know you’ll land on your feet!” doesn’t sit well with some when you get to stay and they don’t.

    • Jee, this is tough.  As if seeing everyone is having a divorce yet you are still married.  Sometimes, the unspoken words, lend them a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, a box of kleenex, whatever seem right for the moment.  Instill faith and hope... just be there I guess.

How many are really effected?  Sometimes I wonder if the world is even moving?  I am hearing so much layoffs, no jobs, as if the world is halted.
