I’ve been noticing a lot of new members joining and I want to say hello. This is a wonderful place and has a lot to offer - there’s truly something for everyone.

Yesterday I was having a conversation with my husband. When I joined Fabulously40 in August, he was uncomfortable with the whole social networking idea. I started with classmates.com to reconnect with my high school buddies, then I went to the More magazine website and started contributing there, then I found Fabulously40. From here I’ve also joined Facebook, Twitter, started a blog on Blogger and who knows what else is in my future. I bought a Blackberry and a Flip Video. He feels like he’s lost his wife, well, maybe not that dramatic.

What made him the most uncomfortable is that I was “talking” to strangers. Then I made arrangements to meet several members for lunch on a recent trip to Orange County. That really freaked him out.

What I explained to him yesterday is, the friendships I’ve made through this site are real. Phone calls have been made, cards have been exchanged, gifts have been sent and received, even business has been cultivated. And, really, it’s not all that different from the way we’ve built friendships throughout our lives; we‘re simply using technology to do it. I love this site and I appreciate Yana for the vision she had to start it. This is a labor of love for her and I’m very grateful.

As you explore what Fabulously40 has to offer, don’t forget to check out the list of groups. There’s a place for everyone here in all the nooks and crannys of this site aside from the home page. If anyone needs guidance how to find your way around, don’t hesitate to ask someone. This is a wonderful community of women. You’ll receive a lot of support here.

Have a wonderful Saturday!

    • Nice blog, Cynthia.  My husband was/is of the same mindset.  He squaunches (is that a word?) up his mouth whenever i mention something or someone from Fab40.  He is not a believer in the capabilities and benefits of online networking.  I believe it’s a “guy thing“.  They tend to think in much more finite terms than women and all it takes is one bad experience (or story about one) and they‘re too good for it.  My kids are inclined to ask about this one or that one from Fab40 because i will occasionally share something with them but i rarely talk about Fab40 with huz...he doesn’t get it and i’m not going to let him spoil my enjoyment!

    • My husband too thought it was unusual but since most of my adult life I traveled for work it was challenging to make friends in one place. I met alot of people in various parts of the country with different interests. On here I get the same but all in one spot. And usually someone on here is joining in on the conversations so there is a connection I didn’t have before.

I welcome all the new members and look forwards to getting to know you all.

    • Thank you.  I visited my psychologist yesterday and I told her about Fab40 (did you feel your ears burning?  That’s me!)  I told her this is the first and last online community I joined and I did not expect anything in the beginning other than information.  Then it gets better and better with all the friendships, support, joy mingles with tears.  She was actually very impressed and glad that I have this community to stabilize and balance my chaotic life.

      This is really God sent.

    • Great blog! As you get older, it’s so much more difficult to make new friends. The old friends have scattered across the nation. If you are lucky, you might make new friends through work or through connections your kids have made. But if you‘re like me - divorced, no kids, with a job that travels every week - it’s HARD. And the by the time we’ve reached that Fab40 mark, chances are we’ve learned how very important that support network of other women truly is! Sites such as this one are a great way to “meet” other women with similar interests; I joined yesterday and am really looking forward to the experience!
