The arrival in Bethlehem;

A virgin, who has conceived a child by the Holy Spirit,

Mary, a woman-in-waiting,

Accompanied by her husband Joseph,

A carpenter by trade, a mere man;

A couple, who have come to register in the lineage of David;

As decreed by Caesar Augustus;

A weary couple who have traveled a long way,

Seeking refuge for the night, in the little town of Bethlehem;

“No room at the inn,” their harsh words of welcome.

Where to go?

What to do?

Where is this child to be born?

What kind of love is this?

A peaceful manger, a place to rest for the night;

Amidst the cattle and the sheep;

The quiet expectancy of a woman-in-waiting,

Of parents-to-be, a child waiting to be born,

Unbeknownst to the eyes of the world;

The couple, alone in their eager anticipation of the blessed event;

A miraculous birth in the early morning hours;

“His name shall be called Emmanuel.”

God with us, Jesus, according to the prophecy;

What kind of Love is this?

The absolute silence of the night;

Its darkness suddenly shattered, splintered, broken,

By one radiant star suddenly appearing on the vast horizon of time;

A divine announcement by an angel, to watchful shepherds

Earnestly tending their flocks in the fields;

A multitude of heavenly host proclaiming,

“Glory to God in the highest;”

Peace on earth;

“Hallelujah!”

Rejoice,

A celebration is in order!

A tiny babe lying in a manger;

One birth,

One child,

A one time event, for all time and eternity;

The only Christ child ever to be born,

Born of the Virgin Mary,

Heralded by wise men from the East, just men,

“Where is he...?”

“Flee to Egypt...”

The divine plan for Mary, the woman-in-waiting,

Perfectly orchestrated by God, not man,

As pre-ordained.
