Hello...My name is kim I have been married for 17 yrs to dave and we have a son he just turned 17, I am having a lot of trouble with him turning 17 I just dont want to let go he is my only child so he is my baby. I feel like that day is right around the corner the day I have to let go and it hurts. He is a very good boy or man and I know he will do well in what ever he does so I just need to keep telling myself that.

Like I said I have been married for 17 yrs and I love my husband but like all men he gets on my nerves and he is very controlling, he feels that he needs to know everything that I am doing at all times and I have to ask permission to even take a dime of money out of the bank, he treats me like a kid sometimes like he is my father rather than my husband, but I love him he is a great guy other that all that other stuff and a wonderfull father so I dont mean to talk him down but sometimes I would like my own space and I dont have it, but I will survive I have for this long :).     So that is a little bit about me.

Thank you,

    • Bless your heart.... I can remember looking at my boys when they were little and tearing up at the thought of them ever leaving me..... my oldest married two years ago and my other son married this past May on my birthday... he chose that date and although some people thought that was selfish of him I was quite honored.

I guess my situation is not the same as yours because I have three children with a 16 year old daughter still at home.........however....

When my boys found a girl that I knew they loved and would be good to them I couldn’t have been more happier for them..... I loved the way they loved each other and although a part of me was sad to give them up to their gals...... I was sooooo glad they had them to take my place....

I hope when it comes time for your son to leave your home that whatever takes him away is as bittersweet as it was for me.

We never stop loving our children no matter how old they are....and guess what????........ they never stop loving us either....

      HANG IN THERE!!!

    • I’m a mom to one son as well. And, he just turned 18 in October, so I can relate.

We just have to know that we’ve done the best we could to prepare them to be adults... and now we mostly just have to sit back and watch!

I’m glad you found us here!

    • I understand where you're coming from, children are 18, 15 and 14.  I addressed the pre-empty-nest thing here

    • My son is 17 and will be 18 in June.  I can totally relate.

As for your husband, did you try to talk to him openly about space issue?
