We have been waiting for ATT to decide what they are going to do. They announced awhile back some layoffs and the gov’t requested that they don’t lay off as many as planned. Well fortunately my husband is NOT getting laid off but transferred instead. To Memphis!
Now is Memphis as pretty as Chattanooga? Does it have the same laid back atmosphere? Is it clean? I have lots of questions.
But hey I’m gonna roll with it. After all what choice do I have right now?
So I need to ready my house (that I just bought in 7/08) to put on the market. Look for a new house while I am still here. Find someplace for my hubby to live there until we get a house. More than likely his job will start a week from Monday. How do you find a place to live in that amount of time? Fortunately again ATT will help with the move so all is not lost.

Did I mention ATT is laying off 12000 employees only to turn around and hire (vs offering to lay offs) 3000 cell sales employees?

I’ve got lots to do so if I don’t appear to be on it’s because of this......

    • Well, it can’t be all bad, Vikki...I was born there! That was a long time ago, but I have an aunt who lives there still. I can’t believe you’ve never been there, though, since it’s in your state. Well, at least you’ll be moving west!

    • Hi Vikki, I’ve never been there, but I am sure it’s going to be just fine.  Good thing your husband did not loose his job!  I wish you to have painless move!

    • Hey Vikki,

Congrats on him not getting laid off.  I actually like Memphis, however it is not as pretty as Chattanooga, but I prefer east Tennessee much more scenic. Memphis is a different atmosphere/attitude than Chattanooga, but still nice place, lots to do. Hot summers. I have never lived there but visited a lot when I lived in Nashville.

    • Vikki: I have a great friend in Memphis and if you like Chinese and dining, he is ideal to know.  He is like my big brother to me.  After you settle down, I will hook you and your husband up with ‘KC Lam’

      When are y‘all moving?

    • Memphis is NOT as pretty as Chattanooga. IT does not have the hills.  You will have much more to do. SHOPPING !!!!!!  Colllierville is a good area to look for housing. The housing is cheaper than it is here in Alabama. As in most cities, most people try to live further out from the city.

Great food  and Beale Street has been totally  restored since I grew up there. Great parks and zoo. I moved from Memphis to Alabama in the early 90’s. It is still home for me.

A lot of my friends are telling me that the crime is getting much worse but I think you will find that most everywhere.

A short term lease at an apartment would be idea for your hubby. Again, I have a realtor that you would love. She knows Memphis frontwards and backwards and she had been doing it for 30 years. She is good at what she does. Let me know if you want her name and number.

As a realtor, getting ready to put your home on the market... Anything that you know that is wrong, repair it in advance. Less is more. Declutter BIG TIME.  IT is hard to put your house on the market, agents will want to show it with hardly any notice. The yard is the first impression. Some buyers will not look at the house if the yard is not manicured. Get as much off the kitchen counters as possible. Kitchens and bathrooms are a big key for a woman. I cannot tell you how many times this makes a deciding difference for one of my buyers. Candles burning.... (CINDY to the rescue)  IT is amazing how many people will make a comment like that house smelled so grand or fresh.

Flowers at the entrance and pops of color will do wonders. Paint can cover a multitude of sins. So, If you need to touch it up, do it.

RIght now , it is a buyers market !!!! Sellers are really taking a hit because of so much inventory and the comps of other homes. Good news is you will more than make up for it when you go buy a home. There are deals right now. A good agent will lead you to them.

I can’t say Chattanooga is better than Memphis, It is just different. You give up on thing for another.

Good luck !!!!!!!!! I am sure his relocation department of the company will have lots of information for you also.

    • Thx everyone for the support and encouragement. I plan on doing almost all the things to the house that I was going to do anyways. Other than flooring. Carpets have been cleaned and will probably offer something towards flooring. Tha house had tons of landscaping that had been let go so our focus had been cleaning vs planting. But I think once I can put flowers out it will look pretty.
I am hoping for a quick sale but will be sad to miss Riverbend Festival in June (Willie Nelson, Montgomery Gentry, the Wailers).
We are going next week for a few days to check it out.
I am contacting the realtor who sold this house to us today. There are no other houses for sale in our sub or the next sub. So that’s good right?
