Ok... Here’s the deal. I am cleaning out my closet because I have way to many clothes. I am trying to minimize, but it’s the hardest thing I have ever done since I love all of my things.  Question...how many pairs of dress pants are necessary? How many pairs of jeans/casual wear are necessary? And dress shirts/blouses...omg! What and how many lol. And need I say anything about shoes? I need tough love because I tend to hoard my things. Help please. I am going to donate most of the clothes, and some really are not worth keeping.

    • okay as a fellow clothesaholic  I have found this is the best way to solve the dilemma
everything which doesn’t fit and I mean is two or three sizes too small goes ....... you are never going to slim down and lets be honest.
Next if it’s tatty or dated get rid
if it’s not flattering get rid

then with what is left divide into summer and winter and then if you haven’t worn it by the end of the season when you swap over to summer get rid.
You only wear 20% of your wardrobe and yes some things like wedding dresses we keep for sentimental reasons but old coats or jackets - charity shop

    • Thank you. Actually havent changed in size since high school. I think that Is the problem. But I have held on to things that are dated and look worn. I am going through this thing about what is age appropriate but not frumpy. My sister in law is going through that too. Actually, she just minimized and brought her rejects to me for me to rifle through lol. so I inherited her probe. But, since she has a professional position, I did find things she had never worn that are uber cool. Live em. Lol. Thanks for the advice. I will keep you posted on my progress.

    • Vicki gave great advice. I also try tomget rid of an item when I buy a new one. And I limit how many hangars I have in my closet.

    • This is kind of crazy, but I think “Would Christie Brinkley or Denise Austin wear this“?  They are 2 incredible ladies in my age range.  If it would be too frumpy or young for them, ditto for me!  Also I would decide how many things are necessary.  I would say something like:
      3 pairs of jeans
      3 casual pants
      4 dress pants
      6 dresses
      4 skirts

Whatever sounds right for you and your lifestyle! heart

    • I did this a few months ago.  I went through my closet and got rid of things I had not worn in a while, did not fit, or I just didn’t like anymore.  Same with the shoes.  I took the clothes and the shoes to a secondhand clothing store that helps domestic abuse victims.
