Hi all.  Hope everyone’s New Year is starting off great.

Last year my hubby got some bad news.  His company was shutting down operations here in the south.  He was losing his job.  He didn’t want to leave the company so he had one of two places to go.  Pennsylvania or Texas.  He chose Texas.  The money was better there and the weather wasn’t going to be a problem for my arthritis.

Hubby left the last day of Dec. and he is trying to find us a place to live.  That left me with the chore of trying to pack up our place here.  Not a lot of fun.  I am having a hard time finding boxes.  Wonderful Wal Mart won’t give out their empty boxes anymore and Food lion isn’t getting enough boxes in for me to get.  I’m supposed to call back tomorrow to Food Lion to see if they have saved enough for me.

I did buy some Banker’s Boxes and a few plastic totes but I don’t want to spend too much money if I can get free boxes.  Today I have to try to find a couple other stores that will give me some boxes.

We will be moving to the Longview area of Texas as that is where hubby’s new job is.  I’m just hoping that everything goes okay and the move goes smoothly.

Have a great day.

    • Well since its a new year I will focus on the positive and say congrats on the job and move.  It’s pretty exciting to find a new home and get it all set up. Gives you another chance to redecorate and fill like you have new stuff even if it’s not.

As for boxes...... Try a liqueur store, clothing store, beauty supply store.

I know when I made my move from Mi to TN I gathered boxes from my work ( hair care  and beauty products) and each week any one of my stores would get 50 boxes or so. If you have some place like that around you ask them. Then offer to pick them up on delivery day. Most places don’t have room to let them accumulate so you offering to pick up on delivery day may be helpful.

Good luck with it all. I can’t wait to hear more about your adventure!!!

    • Sandi, try your local restaurants.  All that food comes off the truck in boxes, ones that are an easy size for lifting and carrying.  The boxes that eggs come in are awesome for packing.  Go check the dumpsters on delivery days.  Boxes usually get broken down and thrown in the dumpster, all you have to do is put some packing tape back across the bottoms.

    • wow..its really kind of exciting. i know its a lot of work but like Vikki said...getting to start over in a new house in a new state...sounds really cool. I really want to move down south..im in New Jersey now and as grateful as i am for all that I have. I just thing the south is much more laid back and would love the opportunity to move there. All that being said...lol...my ties here in the community are very strong..starting all of that all over would be tough!
Congratulations and best of luck ...i know its gotta be overwhelming but once settled and unpacked it will be great!

    • Any office buildings near you?  I know my office has tons of empty boxes from office supplies & reams of paper.

    • Sandi, HOWDY! Welcoming you to the Lone Star State!

Texas is a great place to live.  Born and raised here!  Never moved away! If God says so, I’ll be here ‘til the end.  May your journey to Texas be blessed!

    • Thank you all for your suggestions and prayers.  I’m still having trouble finding boxes as everyone says they have to recycle their boxes.  I did, however, find a wonderful manager at the local Family Dollar.  When I asked about boxes he said that he had just moved and still had the boxes.  He brought me about 12 boxes that were good size to use.  My son also said to buy some boxes using his money as he has things that need to be packed also.  He said whatever boxes that weren’t used for his stuff were mine to use.
