Visited middle daughter this weekend in San Francisco. Left Friday early evening. Went this weekend because oldest daughter would be there for a conference and we were all having dinner for my 49th birthday. This time of year is busy for farmers-still baling hay and harvesting nuts, so we got a late start.

My daughter called right after we left-“Are you going to be here for dinner?” “No, we just left.” “What? Aren’t you coming to see me before you go to hotel?” “No, it will be too late.” “mmmmmmmmm-OK then, call me in morning.”

We checked into hotel at 11:30 pm. There was a storm and we were driving in sleet and high winds, so the trip took awhile. And we stopped for dinner.

What bothered me about this exchange? It sounded a lot like our conversations when she comes home to my house, only reversed. She doesn’t like heavy traffic, so she leaves late-I try to stay up and wait-but usually she wakes me on couch around 1:00 am. We seem to have reversed roles or we are interchanging them. Middle age is crazy, huh?
