This is my first ever “Blog” .  Not even sure what it is all supposed to be about, but I figure I should qrite something that means alot to me.  SO I choose to write about this past Friday.
My beloved Rocky Road had been sick for a week with a “liver/spleen” tumor.  Operating was not an option due to his poor condition, so we were waiting for the right time to put him to sleep.  I had 2 appointments Thursday & Friday which I cancelled because I didnt feel he was ready and it was not the right time.  Friday night I wsas making my husband dinner for his birthday and Rocky walked through the open door in to the kitchen, looked up at me and wagged his tail and started walking towards me.  He began to collapse as I ran over to him.  I craddled him in my arms and hugged and kissed him and told him “Its ok, Good Boy“.  He lay there for about 20 seconds and took his last breaths in my arms.  When he was gone I could not believe what had just happened.  My sweet dog who had not been able to get up or walk on his own for 1 1/2 days got up and walked in to find me to say good bye and that he loved me.  I have no doubt.  I am blessed to have had him for 9 years and to have him leave me in such a peaceful and calm way.  He was true blue to the end, always a gentleman.

    • Wow, thank you for the kind words.  It is hard at the moment, but I was blessed with him.  We will look for another dog or two, not to replace him, just to give our love to a dog who needs us.  We always get pound/rescue or animals who need a home.  Love up your guy for me!  And THANKS.

in Nov.!! :(  We have been through a lot lately.

    • Hi- I just joined this about 5 minutes ago and your blog was one of the first things I saw. It caught my eye because I lost my dog 2 weeks ago. She was only 4 and hit by a car. The week before my only son Dustin left for college so now the house is really quite and empty. Anyways I just wanted to say I was touched by your story and know what you are going through. All my best to you and your family.

    • When my sweet 12-year-old husky died last year, a good friend said something to me that really helped - “We all wish our furry friends would live as long as we do, but then all those other homeless dogs and cats wouldn’t find loving homes.” I adopted a 6-month-old St. Bernard one week later, and he healed my heart. When you‘re ready, you’ll honor Rocky Road’s memory by saving another life.

Thank you for being there to hold him and love on him. I trust that you will see him again.

I do believe that all animals will be in heaven, and that we will get to be with them again. I can’t wait to see my babies again.

I will be praying for you.

    • big hugs to you-I’m so sorry for your loss.  I have been through this heart-breaking/wrenching process with 2 dogs and 3 cats-it never gets easier to watch a beloved member of your family pass on.
Our 12 year old Sunshine is okay for the moment, but lately she’s been looking very frail.
      My heart is with you.

    • Oh Andreab I know how hard it is to say good bye to a beloved pet, I had a chocolate lab with severe hip displasia, I had him put to sleep when he was 7 years old.  I am in tears for you right now, I know what you mean about not wanting to take him to the vet to have him put to sleep, I would have done the same thing too.  My Tex had no hips left and couldn’t even walk, I made my husband remove everything that belonged to him before he took him.  That was 7 years ago, we now have a very active pup 10 months old who act exactly like Tex, I even call him Tex and have to think, oops I mean Zeus.

My thoughts and prayers are with you!

      Stephanie

And, I believe that God gave us dogs because they remind us of His unconditional love. No matter what my dogs always loves me. When I'm sick, happy or sad, whatever I'm going through, they are always there to sit by my side and let me know that they love me. That is the kind of love God has for us, and like you said, God spelled backwards is dog. It's unconditional.

It took me a few months to be ready but then I saw just the right kitten to adopt while shopping at Pestmart! My prayers are with you and I know that when the time is right you will be a blessing to another dog that needs a good home. I commend you for taking in strays. I worked with an animal control officer for 6 years so I am very familiar with how many animals get euthanized because of shelters being too full & not enough homes are being found. God Bless!

He is now 2 and he is amazing. like a 3rd child.  And, he adores me.

    • Thanks so much.  I miss him everyday.  We are looking for another dog, but not rushing.  It has to be the right one, and one who needs us as much as we need him.  Rocky had been on the euthanasia list 3 times before we walked into the pound that day.  The keeper just could not put him down because “he was just too sweet”  she said she prayed someone would come in for him.  We walked in on a Saturday at around 4:00pm.  They closed at 5:00 and that was to be his last day.  The keeper came in on Sunday (her day off) to let him go to us instead of waiting until Monday.  We all were blessed. I kknow we will find another sweet soul that needs our love and home.
