I have to share this with you – my parents are retired and to be honest my father is bored sometimes – so I suggested he learns first aid as I thought it would be handy, get him out of the house and a useful skill.
Where they live is very much a retirement town by the sea in the North of England and he is a very young 70+ years. So he joined a group and they learnt mouth to mouth resuscitation aka the" kiss of life "

At the class he met lots of new people and he discovered over coffee that some people just go round doing different course to pass the time – so the conversation came to technique and the person doing the demonstration had played music when doing the "_Kiss of Life_ " getting the audience to sing the song in their head so they go a beat going and rhythm to their breathing and the pressure on the chest cavity – so I asked what tune they did this to he said Queen "Another one bites the dust!" which had me in hysterics and then another man had said at another class they did Bee Gees "Staying Alive " .......... my thought was if I was coming round from the Kiss of Life would I want someone humming or singing "another one bites the dust!" .......

    • I’m still laughing at the thought of my father reviving a plastic dummy in time to this song

    • Vicki....I’m trying to picture your father giving mouth to mouth at that tune....how funny!!

      In the mid nineties when individuals were starting to get personal computers..we got our first computer which was a MAC (we still own a MAC)...and my father in law at that time was recovering from open heart surgery and was very bored at home.  So he started coming over to our house during the day while we were at work and school and just playing around with the computer ...surfing the internet.  Well...he became more and more fasinated with the MAC..and then ended up taking a course at a local college in computers...specializing in MACS..and when he died in 2003..he was the President of the local MAC club and set computers up for individuals..and kept others running for doctors ..etc.  He was a very smart man.  So...tell your father to take some courses at a local college....that interest him...or take up a new hobby.  But I commend him for taking CPR.  Everyone should know it.

    • Mary he does have a part time job – as it's a retirement town and the women outnumber the men 3 to 1 he is "rent a hubby" so my mother loans him out to local widows.
      For the price of a sandwich or a pot of tea you can borrow my father and he will go with you when you do a major purchase like a new sofa or carpet or he will be at your house reading the paper with a cup of coffee when the carpet is laid or your satellite dish is installed. As a retired builder he is very popular & handy and he loves going doing this as he makes a half day out of it – I have told my mother that she needs to watch her step as he has loads of women who would snap him up quickly.

      He has been on a cookery course and can make pastry and bake scones and do a roast etc;

    • How sweet, I like the concept of “rent a hubby” having had bad experiences in the past while having home repairs a “hubby” would’ve come in handy. estatic and yeah staying alive over another one bite’s the dust...but I like the sense of humor employed...

    • Mary - I have now bought him a little lap top and he is loving surfing the net - he is on Ebay and booking trips - he is off to China in November for three weeks all done via the net .....

      Maybe there is a sideline in “rent a hubby” - Mary you could do with him now shame I could have booked him a trip to the US and he would have done your bathroom in a jiffy
