Wow...I’ve managed to avoid a mamogram but now its come time...I must do it. Right?! Tomorrow is the big day, or hour should I say, I’m not even giving it a day...just my lunch hour. I figure its like a band-aid just rip it off!

What am I afraid of...the pain of the vice, or of what might be? I’ve delivered two children, surely I can handle this!! Until now, I’ve quite enjoyed turning 40! happy

My friend sent me a “funny” email about a woman that went for her time and the electricity went out and they forgot her there (in the vice) for two hours...oh yeah...real funny. Somehow even though I’m sure that story was a goof, and that there are safety mechanisms in place in case of emergency but part of me can’t help but thing...hmmm...that kind of is MY luck!

    • I totally understand your feeling.  I had my first one this year all due to the sisters here kept encouraging me.  I had the same concerns, imaginations and fears.  So I went in and told the tech that this was my first and please do not give me any bad memories.  That helps and she was very present and she asked me to tell her whenever it hurt.  My concern was if they could even squash something out of me for I belong to the ity bity club.

Anyhow, you will be fine and yes, we do go through those kind of thoughts.  Let us know how it goes and will be praying for you.. “a sweet and pleasant scan, result and memory“happy

    • Don’t worry about the mamo..... piece of cake! And definitely worth it. I’m not from the ity bity club and have been told that is when there is discomfort.

      Best wishes!

    • I had my first one last year and  I was nervous from everything that I had been told.

It did not hurt at all.   I was sooooooo relieved.

    • No worries!  I’ve been getting them done since I was 18.  There is nothing to worry about... even when you see your boob stretched out like pizza dough.... being stretched further than you thought humanly possible!!! lol   Honestly... it does not hurt.  If you are unfortunate to be a member of the itty bitty titty committee, it is not painful.  I think the best word to describe it would be mildly uncomfortable.  But, no matter what we tell you, you will still be worried.  Virgins are often afraid of the unknown! LOL   I’ll look foward to reading your update tomorrow after your appt!

    • I have had several, all at different facilities, and none of them was painful. Yeah, it’s not the most comfortable thing in in the world, but neither is having a speculum shoved up your hoo! Do not worry, you will be fine! (I also have some larger ta-ta’s. In fact, if they drop any lower, they’ll be knees.)

    • Uhm...mine hurt.  Sorry to burst your bubble :)  I’m not of the itty bitty club either but my shmush was pretty uncomfortable!

HAVING SAID THAT - it was over in moments and there was no lasting discomfort.  It’s just one of those necessary evils.

    • Thanks to everyone...I made it just fine! happy

Not sure if it was my tech or just my endowment that made it easy, but I will tell you that all my worry about pain was for nothing. I wouldn’t even categorize it as uncomfortable except when I had to go on my tippy toes and hold my breathe.

All Hail...the mammo myth is finally dead!
