I have made the decision to tutor online. I have been tutoring for several years and find that it really can be a boost for students who need extra help either understanding material or who need reteaching.
I know that a good tutor provides expertise, experience, and encouragement.
Tutors do not provide "answers," but rather assist in problem solving, in getting answers.
Tutors can help students develop their knowledge base and reinforce critical thinking skills and especially study skills.
My decision to tutor online was made after having tutored for several years with Sylvan Learning as well as private tutoring. In addition, I have taught for five years and have a Master's in Education.
I just read that last year Americans spent more than $4 billion on tutoring services! There are tutoring organizations, like Sylvan, that have proven track records, but if you are looking for a tutor for your child (maybe that will be my next blog, lol) look for someone who has experience and education in the area(s) they are tutoring.
I really enjoy seeing the benefits of working one on one with my students and tutoring online gives me more flexibility, so wish me luck with this adventure!
