If you've been using a skin lightening formulation containing an active ingredient such as [Link Removed] to address age spots or hyperpigmentation, you may discover that your skin peels a little more than usual. While it may be alarming, it's usually no cause for
concern.

Many skin lightening preparations include [Link Removed]  (AHAs), an ingredient widely used in many treatments for their ability to exfoliate skin. Exfoliation is beneficial in two ways:

1.It removes the uppermost layer of dead and dry skin cells. This layer often includes damaged and pigmented skin. Their removal, leaves skin looking smooth and soft. When it comes to hyperpigmented skin, the result is a more even skin tone.
2.Removal of the dead skin cells reveals healthy skin cells below. Active ingredients, like hydroquinone, are more readily able to penetrate through healthy skin cells. The inclusion of a exfoliating agent such as alpha hydroxy acid, results in better absorption of other active ingredients including skin lightening agents.face
Yes, peeling isn't a look many of us covet. However, the effects are usually temporary and once dead skin cells have been removed, peeling should subside. Here's how to weather the worst of it:

•Stick to using gentle cleansers which won't strip skin of its natural oils. Harsh soaps can dry skin and may contribute to the peeling.
•If the peeling becomes very noticeable, scrub very gently with a washcloth or a light facial scrub to help remove flakes.
•In addition to contributing to hyperpigmentation, the sun can dry and damage skin, which may exacerbate peeling. Cover up with a good UVA/UVB blocking sunscreen daily. I'm a big fan of [Link Removed].
A good skin lightening formulation may cause a bit of peeling. But, you will be rewarded with great skin.
