Where does a persons negativity come from? A friend of mine, Debby Hoffman calls them negaholics.  How can these people find their way back to happiness and live a "glass half full" life?

Some people do not even realize they are being negative, for them it is a way of life.  I cannot imagine living my life thinking the worst instead of looking for the best.  Sometimes we get caught up and have to remind ourselves to be positive, I believe that is normal.  We cannot walk around all the time with rose colored glasses, there are sometime things that need to be addressed.

We all know misery live company and it can be emotionally draining to be around people that are negative.  I remember reading in the Twelve Pillars of Success, to be successful you need to surround yourself with successful, positive people. It talked about removing yourself from the negative people in your life.  That can be difficult if some of those people are close friends that you care about.  How can I just turn my back on them especially when they appear to need me the most?

I have a friend who is extremely talented, kind and he enjoys helping people but he is a negaholic.  There are days he frustrates me and I ask him to tell me one positive thing, just one I tell him.  Of course he doesn’t say anything and instead changes the conversation away from his negative rant.  I have compassion for good people that are caught in a negative cycle.  It must be difficult to not be fully happy with your life and not realize that you have control to change its direction.  Yes, bad things happen to good people but we all have a choice in how we deal with it.  I truly believe everything in life is an opportunity even if something bad presents itself. There is nothing better than making lemonade out of lemons.  

Ask yourself, am I am negaholic?  Be honest, there is no one watching or listening, this is about you and your happiness.  Are there things about yourself you want to change?  How can you go about changing them?  One of the most difficult things a person can do is a self assessment.  It can also be one of the most rewarding, not only for yourself but for the people around you.
