I suppose since I’m in my early forties that it may be considered a midlife change.  I have always disliked the word “midlife” - it’s a reminder that I’ve already used up half of my allotted time on this earth.  I’m holding out hope that life expectancy will grow exponentially over the next few decades and essentially make my forties more like a quarter of my life lived.

Anyway, on to the topic at hand.  I made a choice a few weeks ago to have a very sudden career switch from freelance web developer to freelance writer.  As I didn’t tank automatically and was pleasantly surprised by several writing gigs and offerings, I have come to the conclusion that it was a good career move.

So, armed with this bit of “I-don’t-suck-at-writing“, I decided to go back to school and earn an associates degree in Mass Media & Journalism.  Ever optimistic, I’ve gone even further and decided to make it a transferable degree to a four year college in the hopes of earning a BA before I am a grandmother (my oldest is 15 and I’m holding onto the belief that she wants kids like another hole in the head at the moment).

There you have it.  My “midlife change“.  And it is never too late.
