As some of you know, husband and I planned a trip to Newport Rhode Island this weekend for our 30th wedding anniversary. These plans have been set since the beginning June. As the weather would have it, we had to cancel our stay at the beautiful Victorian Ladies. A charming bed and breakfast that came highly recommended. The policy of that B&B is no deposit upon reservations but I did leave a credit card number. There would be no charge for cancellation 15 days prior to arrival. If cancellation within 14 days of arrival, there would be a one night’s charge unless the room can be rebooked which the charge would only be $25.
I called the B&B on Thursday as the weather situation here on Long Island was not looking very good. Tropical storm Danny looked as though it would hit us directly. Besides, the weather would have followed us up to Newport. With that, I made the decision to cancel. I spoke with the owner/innskeeper who is such a nice man. He sympathized with me but business is business. He did say if we rebooked, we would receive half credit. Okay ..... fast forward. I received a call from Harry telling me that he would credit me back the entire amount ( one nights stay ) when we rebooked but we needed to book for 2 nights (we would only be charged for one) and that it would have to be a king room, just like the luxury room we orginally booked. I was very happy with and told him we will be rebooking very soon.
Shortly after that phone call, Harry called again. Seems when he canceled our reservations, he canceled out our credit card number which meant he couldnt even charge us the one night for canceling. Me being me, I joked with him and said “Wow. What a compromising position Im in right now“. We both chuckled. I did give him my credit card number to charge me for a night I wont even be there. I did tell him that now he knows Im a genuine trustworthy person. He said he already knew that. I wonder now, based on that if my card will be charged after all. Im guessing yes.
What would you have done???

I would have went ahead and gave him the CC# again....

Probably the same thing you did, we don’t have control over the weather, if he had acted like a jerk I might not have given him my CC# again, but he was cordial and respectful, and that makes a difference.
So far, I dont see any charges posted. Nonetheless, Im looking to rebook for the end of September or the end of October. Such a beautiful bed and breakfast.

I would have done the same thing you did; sometimes you gotta have faith. Plus, with its reputation, he sure wouldn’t want to do anything to mess that up.
Boy Doreen, do I know you or what?? I said right away I’ll bet she went ahead and gave him her cc number again! Good girl, I would have done the same I think. Especially if they were good people.
Work a man....lolol! Are you referring to Cleveland in anyway???? LOL Worked that guy so good he left and never brought back our drinks. The nerve!! LMAO

Just to let you know, I received a note from Harry at the Victorian Ladies B&B. My card was charged the one night’s stay but he specified for me to bring this letter with me upon rebooking and he will credit this back to me.
He also thanked me for giving him my credit card number.
What a very sweet man he is. ![]()
