Our grandsons arrived at dinnertime Friday along with our son-in-law.  Not knowing how many people were going to be at the table for dinner, I’m so glad I do my best to keep both the pantry and fridge filled with items that are easy to expand into a full meal!

At least most of the time.

Friday was a bit haywire.  Our daughter had come in very late Thursday evening.  Friday morning, my husband, despite it being his day off, wound up going in to his store for a conference call.  The three of us got up early and had breakfast at the local bagel/coffee hang out and found our nephew and brother-in-law already there eating their breakfast.

Worked out fine because they got to see our daughter.  My sister was home with our niece and got rather peeved that no one called her.  Since they didn’t want to get dressed and go with the male half of their family, I don’t see as that would have made a difference.

Back to dinner.  As it turned out, our son-in-law and grandsons made it to our home by dinner time.  We were at Build-a-Bear with our daughter-seems PopPop bear (older grandson’s best sleeping and holding buddy with a song sung by grandpa)was left at pre-school.  We had to get a substitute, dubbed PopPop’s brother, in a hurry.

We got back and the human PopPop told Dylan this one was here to help out in PopPop’s absence.  Actually seemed to work.

I put together a very quick dinner by taking out frozen foccacia rolls, salmon patties, tater tots and broccoli.  Everyone, except Dylan was quite happy with the meal.  Knowing the boys were coming, I made a batch of oatmeal raisin spice cookies for dessert.

The next night I took out that Guy Fieri Sirloin Roast and served it with baked sweet potatoes and a nice big salad bar.

Friday night, dinner was for 6. Saturday night, while our daughter and son-in-law were at a wedding, our son and daughter-in-law stayed for dinner-so we had 6 again.

The grandkids went to the other grandmother’s for the night and hubz went on a business trip.

Only me-which was actually a nice way to relax until the grandkids came back on Monday.

My week will be filled with the kids and whatever we chose to do.  I’ll be making such dishes as dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, pasta and meatballs and rice with salmon patties.  Our daughter-in-law has gratiously offered to come over after work and lend a hand, so the 4 of us will be having some easy to eat, kid-friendly meals.

One night, we’ll be packing a picnic and going to a local park that will host a free concert.  Hopefully the kids will enjoy this change of pace.

My week is all about the kids-wish me luck!

Love it
