A tearful eye reveals

The presence of a fond, but sad memory;

Someone dear,

Long gone,

Lost to today,

Or so it would seem.

Shattered dreams,

Disappearing like falling leaves,

Sent to time’s non-visible realm

Of eternity,

The hereafter;

An empty heart stands

Waiting to be filled,

Longing, yearning for yesteryear;

No visible presence of that loved one,

Just a photo,

Or two;

Black and white,

Etched into the past,

A colored photograph,

A video,

Sitting on the hearth

Of an unlit fireplace;

Timeless and unchanging,

Deep reverence,

Coupled with elements of mystery;

What would have, could have

Or should have been,

Or was this supposed to happen?

Death in its coldness,

Predestined by senseless war;

Relentless agony;

Homeless, helpless people by the dozen,

Hungry and hurting,

Waiting for what?

New times and new values

To be posited in today’s journal of time,

By writers, authors and poets;

Words to be posted somewhere,

On the horizon of infinity;

What comfort is this?

Beyond the human pen,

A divine message of love,

Hope and expectation;

Above the mores of the world;

Look up!

Reach higher!

Climb one more rung

And then another!

Beyond the grief and despair

Of the day,

One solitary second of blessed peace;

Tranquility reigns;

In redemption’s blessed moment;

Hope reigns supreme,

If one can but see beyond the world.

A prayer for the Comforter ensues.

Hallelujah! God lives.
