Mark and I went to downtown Kingsport tonight for the lighting of the Christmas Tree tonight. The tree is located in one of the most beautiful areas of town-right in the middle of an area called Church Circle. There are literally 6 churches of different faiths lining this roundabout. One very cool thing I noticed was they were sharing parts of the Nativity scene.
We noticed many people walking around with lumieres-the white pillar candle with the paper guard at the bottom. Those always make me remember midnight mass at Granny’s Lutheran church, so I really wanted one. Mark saved our spot by the tree, and I went hunting for a candle (ironic, huh?)
I walked toward the grandstand, and there they had a hot chocolate station, with a cute little girl of about 10 pouring. I happened to notice she had one of the candles and asked if it was hers. She said yes, and handeded me one cup. When she handed me the second cup, she said, “Merry Christmas” and held not only the hot chocolate, but the candle. I looked at her closely and asked, “Are you sure?” and she told me yes, she really did not need one.
That little token made me feel so Christmassy. I’m not a Grinch, but my heart did grow two sizes tonight.

That’s so sweet. Sometimes the smallest gesture stays with both the giver and the recipient for a long time. I bet she’ll remember this. Thank you for sharing that moment.

Last night i was working in the Almond Station ( making the glazed almonds ) and when the show was finished and people were leaving, a family stoped and a young man probably around 11-12 years old, bought a bag of almonds..
He paid with a 5 dollar bill, and as i was getting his change, they started walking away! im like ” wait sweetie, i have your change ” he hesitated a minute, then came back, and i handed him his change, and told him thank you..
as i went to wait on the next costumer, he said, ” no, really, id like you to have this ” and i just looked at him.. ” i can’t take your money sweetie.. ” and he let it on the counter, and said its for you!
i said ” thank you so much! but this is what id like to do.. i will accept it, and then if someone comes up, and doesnt have enough money, i can use what you have so freely given.. Does that sound good? ” he told me that was a perfect idea!
i had him come over to the door, and i gave him a big hug, and a big thank you!
that just blew me away! what a special young man!
i had tears in my eyes!
you know that little girl, and that little boy, shows me how i want to be, if that makes sense..
