On my 20 pound challenge group I shared yesterday that I had a friend years ago who introduced me to running in races. I googled her after more than 20 years and found a somewhat outdated blog about her marathon adventures around the world. So I decided to see if she was on Facebook. She was so I sent her a message. But then I went back to her blog and started reading some of her posts. Then I had that weird “hair standing up on the back of the neck” moment. One of her posts was of a trip to Maui and seeing Haleakala. But then I saw a photo of her sitting with a couple near their home in Kula so I clicked on it to see it more clearly. There they were - a couple I know and the man was wearing a golf shirt from the Seabury Hall annual tournament. My husband is the headmaster of Seabury Hall!!! And this man plays in our golf tournament every year. I about jumped out of my seat when I saw this photo. I picked up the phone, called their house and asked if they know my friend from all those years ago. Turns out they all went to college together. Meanwhile my friend is making a friend request on Facebook and leaving me a return message. How weird is that???? I’m looking forward to re connecting with her on one of my trips back to California. She’s still living in the same house. Oh and another strange thing - I’m planning to run in that original race in April 2011 to comemorate my 50th birthday. She’ll be running a marathon that same month to comemorate her 60th birthday - in Paris!
