It's kind of startling to me when I let it sink in that I haven't seen Jonathan since the first week of August. And the last time we saw each other was [Link Removed] to say the least. The only other time we've gone this long without seeing each other is when Scott and I were going back and forth from Texas to St. Thomas during 2003 and 2004.

Jonathan’s current schedule at the Job Corps has him working and studying right up until his Christmas break on December 19th, so he won’t even be coming home for Thanksgiving. Quite honestly, I NEED to see my son. I need to hug him and make sure he’s doing as well as he’d have me believe. Things like “I’ve lost twenty pounds, Mom!” have got me a little freaked out. Not that he’s in jeopardy of wasting away or anything...

So anyway, Sunday morning we‘re heading up to San Marcos to pick up Jonathan and hold him captive for the day. We‘re going to take him shopping, and let him get “his feed on” at a Chinese buffet and basically just make sure that by the end of the day he knows how proud we are of what he’s doing, and what he’s still planning to get done.

Scott has mapped our trip out to the minute, with such flexible situations as the time we‘re picking up Jonathan (10:30 am), to our arrival in Austin (10:55 am) and our first stop for lunch at the Chinese buffet (11:10 am). I am already planning an “unplanned” bathroom stop about halfway to San Marcos, just to keep things interesting. In all honesty, I’m just hoping to get that vein in his forehead good and throbbing before noon.

Jonathan has a 9:00 pm curfew but we‘re actually going to have him back closer to 8:30 so we can venture into San Antonio for the night and half of the following day. Scott’s never seen the Alamo or the River Walk, so I’m excited to get to create these memories with him.

We’ll head back home by noon or so to meet Katy (Scott’s youngest daughter) at our place on Monday afternoon. Then we launch into a brand new adventure on her behalf: her internet boyfriend, a young man who has been a part of her life for about six months or so, will be arriving from Michigan on Tuesday afternoon to spend Thanksgiving with us.

Stay tuned! Here lately, there’s never a dull moment.

Have a great weekend!! :)

    • I promise to take LOTS of pictures!! I have 2 empty cards for my camera and my camera bag is full of batteries.

The weather is supposed to be a little rainy, but we‘re going to hope for the best. Scott, good little planner that he is, has got a “plan B” in place in case the weather drives us indoors. As it stands, we hope to take a leisurely walk around the University of Texas campus, which is where Jonathan wants to enroll after he spends some time in the Army.

    • Have a fabulous time Heather!!  I know exactly how you feel about the NEED to see your son! My middle son is away at Washington College in Chestertown, MD.  Even though it is only an hour and a half away, I still miss him terribly!!
He has worked at a restaurant the past 4 years before going away to college and he always chose to work the holidays to make extra money!!
I was so looking forward to him coming home for Thanksgiving, when I found out that his father planned a trip to CanCun, Mexico!
Disappointment set in quickly but I could see how excited he was to be going away. I know I will see him when he gets back but it just isn’t the same when you can’t have all of your family together during the holidays!!
It fills my heart to know that you are taking the time to spend with your son!!
I hope you enjoy every moment with him!!

    • jeanie, ingrid, jacs and daph, I PROMISE to take lots of pictures, lol.

And with all these hugs, I can imagine half the trip Jonathan’s going to be saying “All right Mom, you can let go now...“. It won’t be the first time! ;)

And don’t forget: Flat Stanley is going with us, too! This should be a hoot!

    • Enjoy your time with Jonathan. Make some great memories. Try to take it just a little easy on Scott though, I know it’s fun, but.....awww shoot go ahead and give it to him with both barrels.
Have a great trip Heather, I can’t imagine how excited you must be.
      Be safe = -)

    • Hi all!!

We’ve just gotten checked into our room in San Antonio and Scott has gone in search of cold drinks (didn’t plan for that, lol). We are exhausted from our day of a lot of walking and a lot of driving.

We’ve spent a bunch of money and eaten a lot of food... basically had a WONDERFUL time with Jonathan.

I’ll be blogging tomorrow after we get back home (and sharing pictures, of course), but there’s just something about being in a hotel room with my handsome hubby that makes me not want to be on the computer for long right now. ;)

      Have a great night! :)
