I did something yesterday that I had to muster up the courage to do. I called wedding planners and event coordinators and brought them business cards and samples.

I can be in my kitchen all day long making chocolate and have tourists and locals wander in the door out of curiosity. I’m animated, showy, displaying my chocolates, explaining how I do my work, allow people to come over and look into the machine, watch me produce. No problem. But when I have to go out and actually market myself - I freeze!

But I know it’s part of the job and it has to be done. And I realize that in some cases I’m actually doing them a favor because there’s a need for what I make and according to the health department, I’m the only one doing this on Maui - at least legally. So why on earth do I have such a hard time selling myself and my chocolates?

Does anyone else have this problem? Have you overcome it? Please tell me how! It honestly takes a lot of courage that I have to talk myself into in order to make these calls and set up these appointments.

And it’s not as if I make something that people have an aversion to; most people love chocolate!

I mean, who wouldn’t want to eat this?

    • Cynthia! I want to eat those right now!
Earlier today I was saying to someone that I could not sell anything to save my life.

    • I can only offer encouragement and support. Promoting one’s own business is always difficult at least for you and I. I have a skill that people want and you have chocolate. We just have to step out of our comfort zone regularly. Someone has written, “It’s okay to be afraid, just do it afraid.” I will feel great when you recognize your success is your success. You go girl.

    • I was taught by my mentor, there are only few answers to a sale “Yes, No, Maybe” And we need to also learn “NEXT“.  You did a fabulous job and I give you a more vote of confidence.  It is scary and uncomfortable at first, but remember, if no A-S-K, then no G-E-T.  Ask and you shall receive.  Good job, Cynthia - you are on your road of success.  Remember me when you become famous.  ha ha.
