Sept. 27 (Bloomberg)—Paul Newman, the singularly handsome actor with the ice-blue eyes who starred in such films as ``The Color of Money‘’ and ``Hud‘’ while pursuing his interests as a racecar driver, businessman and philanthropist, died yesterday at 83 at his home in Westport, Connecticut, his spokeswoman said.

Newman received a diagnosis of cancer more than a year ago.

    • Stephanie, Amy said it best and I quote:

“Paul Newman was asked once why he never cheated on his wife? He said: "Why should I eat hamburger when I have steak at home?" I love Paul Newman! He was a man of noble character, with a strong work ethic and moral code and a deep and abiding love for his mate, his family and those he helped through his camps for kids with cancer. This man was a rare breed.

We need more men like him in our society...to be an example..then men wouldn't cheat..they would have their act together.”

    • Paul Newman was a wonderful man.  After reading about him tonight I discovered how much he had given away to charity and how he had helped children with cancer.  Never knew it until now.  This is a perfect example of how some people with fame and money do not require that everyone know all the good that they do...such as people like Oprah.  I had never heard of all that he had done until today and it’s an amazing story.  The fact that he and Joanne Woodward were married over 50 years is amazing enough especially in the business they were both in.  Goes to show you ..it can be done.  He was just a class act...and he will be sorely missed.  He was one good looking man.  A prayer for his wife and family would be nice.

    • Hi everyone, just to clarify, the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is for sick children all over the country. www.holeinthewallgang.org    You should check out their website to learn more about what this wonderful man created.  HE left such a legacy between his acting/movies, his camp for kids, his car racing and his presence.

    • I guess I’ve had my head in a hole somewhere... he truly was a wonderful man.  What a shock - but what a legacy he has left the world.  And yes, in show business, it is the rare man or woman who remains faithful to their spouse.  He will be missed...

    • I remember the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.  I was nine when it came out, but I had older sisters in their late teens and early 20’s.  They loved that movie and had all of the posters of Paul Newman and Robert Redford.  The soundtrack played on our hi-fi stero a lot!!  I still love that movie and watched it after I heard of Paul.  He was a great actor and did so much for charities.   He will be missed deeply.
