"You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand." -- Psalm 16:11

It was a Spring morning, and as I drove by many plants and trees laden with Spring blossoms, I remembered how the fragrance used to bring a smile to my face as I walked through certain areas (before I had my car).  I remember one particular path to which I would look forward every Spring morning.  This path was lined with lilac, hyacinth and a few others I had yet to identify.  Although the flowers were all around me, it wasn't overpowering, nor did it adversely affect me (no allergy attacks).  I just remember that no matter what had happened on my way to work, or in what mood I had awakened into, the prospect, and then the actual experience, of walking through that path of flowers always lifted me to a place of peaceful enjoyment.  I was able to just be in that moment, not worrying about what may lie ahead of me, or be concerned about what may have happened before.  It was often while walking along this path that I could hear God’s voice most clearly.  For that brief moment in time I had dismissed my own concerns and had just become a part of the moment; I allowed myself to simply enjoy the beauty of God’s creation.  I miss that time...

Because of that memory, I am encouraged to find a place where I can go and just "be."  I encourage you to do the same.  It's a place where we can seek the Lord's presence and He meets us there.  It's a place where we are enveloped by the peace-filled fragrance of His Holy Spirit.  He's never overpowering, or are you adversely affected by His presence.  It's a place where no matter in what condition you go, you are lifted to a place of peaceful enjoyment.  It’s the place where you can dismiss all of life’s issues and just be in God and He in you.  It’s the place where you can hear His voice most clearly.  It is just a fulfillment of the scripture, "You have made known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence..."

When I began writing this, I intended to go in an entirely different direction, but isn't the Lord wonderful in reminding us of how earnest He is in wanting us to be with Him?  I wanted to write about how our praise perfumes His nostrils, but He wanted to remind us how His presence perfumes our atmosphere.  I wanted to write about how He wants to be with us, but He wanted to remind us how He wants us to be with Him.  I wanted to wax poetic on how certain places are where His Holy Spirit likes to stay because of the perfume of praise we send up, but He wanted to stay simple and give a gentle reminder of His love for us.  The Father's love is so wonderful, His every effort is to woo us to Him, ever the more closely.

One thing on which we did agree was that I needed to spend more time in His presence.  My rushing past the places through which He’s leading me, and only occasionally pausing to enjoy the scenery around me is only going to further hinder the growth potential He’s placed within me, and I would ultimately miss the lessons He’s teaching me.  So I’m going to learn to slow down some and enjoy the path on which He has me instead of rushing to get to the end.  Sometimes what (or whom) we encounter on the paths of life are so much more important than the destination, but you already know that, ‘cause stopping and smelling the flowers is no longer an empty phrase...

So fragrant filled. Good thing we can do metaphorics because my sinuses won’t let me smell all those flowersestatic.
I am thankful to God for his splendor, so I’ll enjoy the visuals of all He has to offer.

    • [Link Removed], that’s when i know GOD is doing it again, because, like you, on any other occasion i would have been sneezin‘, wheezin‘, hackin‘, snottin‘, the whole nasty mess that comes with severe allergies, but when i would take those walks, simply to have my time with GOD, not a sniffle.  now you tell me, is HE sovereign or what?
