Is he sorry that he has been smoking weed, or is he sorry the photo was taken? Does everyone smoke “WEED” dangit.

His mother, Debbie Phelps, cried when she heard the news.

“That hurt worse, maybe, than anything,” Phelps wrote. “I had never seen my mother that upset.”

So what do you think? Yeah he is young and going to do stupid things, and plus he’s only human right?

We always put people up on a Pedestal thinking they are not human, but they are.  He will learn a valuable lesson from this I bet!

    • It’s an embarrassment to his family and fans!  Yea he is 23 years old and probably hanging out with the “wrong” crowd but come on dude, get it together!! This isn’t the first time either!! Drinking has got Phelps into trouble before too!!! In 2004,  at the age of 19, he got 18 months probation for driving while under the influence. So..what are we suppose to except this as just being “human“??

He is an Olympian with 14 Gold Medals!!! There are so many kids out there that look up to him as a role model!!

Is this really the message to send? Make a bad choice.. make a public apology... make your mother cry... and then what, expect America to embrace this young man because he is an Olympian and made a mistake??

      I say... Grow up Michael!!

Understandable that young people of course make silly decisions; we all have. In his case, he knew better. Who knows maybe he wanted a short break from being in the public eye or stress or whatever and it was the last way he should have taken that break. At least he's not saying stupid shit like, "I didn't inhale!!"
I guess for someone who has the world at his fingertips, it might feel like a hit of disrespect (to fans)over a hit off of a bong.
It’s hard to predict if his charming little self will recover from this or not. Guess only time will tell.

Usually news this big...gets out the day after!!!

    • HAHAHA.  I think somebody got paid for the picture as usual.  I’m sure his mother was probably yeah embarrassed because of her friends and family.

Is it a big deal yes and no.  It’s not a big deal because we all know people smoke weed.  It is a big deal because smoking weed is still illegal I thought.  But mostly he is just stupid because he should know that haters are out there just waiting to catch him doing something stupid!

    • His biggest lack of judgement was not that he smoked pot but he was dumb enough to not take into account that everyone has a camera in their cell phone these days.

Great athlete but perhaps he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed

    • I agree with BB about why mom was upset.

The thing is, he didn’t win those medals to become a hero, we made him that way. No sports figure should be a hero, that comes from Charles Barkley, not me. Last night, before the game, they brought out the crew from the US Airways flight that went into Hudson bay. THOSE are heroes.

He was dumb, but that’s the thing, he is 23 and kids make dumb mistakes. And he hurt no one but himself.

    • There is a consequence for every choice you make...good or bad. Yes he made a mistake. None of us are perfect. But he should realize there are consequences for his actions. If there is a morals clause in his endorsements, then he should lose the contract. I remember when I volunteered in a juvenile court. One thing I will never forget is this young man who was probably 12. Don’t remember what he did but he said he was going to plead guilty. He then followed up with...It’s my first time...the judge will let me off! What kind of precidence is this setting for our young people. I was floored by his comment and I have never forgotten it. In my opinion if you are going to be a public figure and endorse products then live with morals. Would you have been fired from your job if you were given a drug test and tested positive?

    • What he did was dumb, but I really don’t see how the cops can consider criminal charges without having been there-

      [Link Removed]

If they‘re going to bust him from a photo, then they need to start scouring Facebook for all the underaged drinking. This is dumb.

I’d kick the butt of the person who got this public. If he was not famous, no one would care.

So now he is thinking...“damn to be a nobody again!“tongue out

    • Geesshhhh........it was just a bong hit or 2!!!  I feel sorry for him that someone he trused betrayed him with their camera phone.  Yes, he should have known better because of who he is.  I don’t condone drinking or smoking weed but if your in your home and want to have a few drinks OR a few hits from a bong in your home than that is your business.  All I have to add is that I’ve never heard of anyone smoking a joint and taking out a family with their car.  The reports always come back with the percentage they were over on the legal drinking limit.  And no, I’m not a pot head or a drinker.  Ok, maybe a beer or two on weekends but that’s it.
