PREPARING FOR THE UNTHINKABLE     (PART l)

It was early morning and as I was preparing for work, the phone rang. Reaching for it I was not prepared for the unthinkable.  An associate of my husband who was on a work
related trip with him called to tell me that my husband had passed away. I remember that morning as if it were yesterday. I am surprised to date that I was able to process any thoughts after hearing that the man I loved so much was gone. As only God can do, he had sent a friend to stay that night with me, and so during that devastating moment that morning I had someone with me to tell the news to, and to hold me while I shook. I couldn't cry yet, I believe it was still too unreal for my mind to believe and I was numb.

It wasn't long before a sheriff arrived to notify me that I was now a widow. He was very surprised that I had already received the notification of my husband's death. He informed me that the person who had called to tell me the news had done so unlawfully, as I remember. He said it is protocol for a policeman, or Sheriff to deliver this type of information in the case that the person receiving it had some sort of medical needs. And as I think back on this person who called me, I wonder what rationalization he had to make such a phone call. He had NONE! It was thoughtless and without any compassion.

None of us want to believe that it can happen to us, and that we can loose our spouse without warning. I will be sharing my story with you, as well as giving you recommendations that I hope you will take to heart. I am NOT an attorney, nor do I claim that I am a professional in this field. My only hope is to give you an outline to help you prepare for the unthinkable by my own experience.

    • It’s so true, no one ever wants to believe that life is real, and along the way comes all kinds of twists and turns. One second can change our lives forever.

This is a heartbreaking story, however, reading it now makes it easier  knowing that you are once again happy and around your loved ones.

    • Thank you Yana. I am VERY,VERY happy now. Happier than I have ever been in my lifetime. How sweet of you!

Annie, thank you for your words. I really have no need to share my story for support, I just pray that the series of blogs I am going to write for all the Fab40 women here will
help them to start a plan TODAY in the case of the unthinkable. While we are given help in how to deal emotional healing once are loved ones are deceased, being prepard is essential.

    • Della,

By sharing your story, you provide hope to those who may feel equally as hopeless as you did that fateful day.  IMO, hope is the foundation of any healing.  Thank you.
