At 6:30am, I received a text message from my youngest step-daughter, Katy.
Katy is the sort of kid that will send me a text message to say “Happy I’m-Coming-To-Visit-You Day!“.
She celebrates days and moments, finding pleasure in the little things and then doing her best to pass that pleasure on, even if with just a text message.
The message from Katy this morning said, quite simply: “Happy New President Day!”
I thanked her, and wished her the same. Her next message:
“I’m so proud that I voted and will forever be a part of history!”
I told her that we were proud of her, too. Not just for voting, but for WANTING to make a difference. And I told her:
“This is the world you will inherit so you might as well start changing it now!”
I’ve read messages from people who voted not in favor of what they want right now, but in favor of what they want for their kids and grandkids.
I’m proud this is my country. I’m proud of my kids, and the differences they are making.
I’m proud to call Barack Obama my new president.

We will miss you and are sad you won’t share the fresh opportunities awaiting us Americans.

It was a great day not only for the fact that Obama won, but also because of the huge turn out for voters.
While standing in line to vote, I spoke with people whom had not voted in years, But this election was very important to them and they wanted their voices heard loud and clear.
I am overwhelmed with pride! I cry easy in the first place but this really has sent me needing to have a kleenex box near me at all times as I am just so unbelievably happy.
