A lot of people ask me if primers are really a necessary beauty item. Since each woman is unique, its hard to answer that across the board, so I thought I’d tell you what primers do so that you can decide for yourself!

Primers are used underneath makeup to prep skin, fill in texture and hold color in place longer. For instance, you might use a foundation primer under your foundation to fill in any texture in the skin (eg acne scars, fine lines, blemishes). Additionally a primer will help to control oil or dryness (depending on what type of primer you select) and keep your makeup in place longer. My favorite is Laura Mercier’s Oil-Free foundation primer.

An eyeshadow primer would be used to stop eyeshadow from creasing and also to show the true shade of the eyeshadow you are using. Typically eye shadow primers neautralize eyelid color so that when you apply eyeshadow, they payoff is exactly what it looks like in the container. A great eyeshadow primer is Urban Decay’s Shadow Insurance.

A lip primer is similar. It neutralizes lip color so that the lipstick color goes on as it looks in the tube. A lip primer also hold lipstick in place longer and stops lipstick from bleeding into fine lines around the lip. A great lip primer is Face Stockholms Lip Fix.

Mascara primers are great too! They condition lashes and separate so that mascara application is easy, quick and you get an amazing result!

Nicciknows LOVES primers and uses them both personally and professionally! Hope this helps.
