I was asked by a fellow fabber to give a little feedback on my experience with probiotics.  Last year I was in a medical crisis..came very close to dying.  I had contracted a virus in December 2007 that shot my immune system to nearly nothing.  I was literally attacked by the herpes virus (which lies dormant in many people and can become activated at any time) which in turn caused the Epstein Barr virus that I had been exposed to, to go haywire and it started a chain reaction of symptoms in my body that I had never dealt with or was not prepared for.  I lost 30 pounds, but on my frame it was nightmarish. On top of that I underwent ear surgery, so needless to say, death would have been welcomed.  I struggled for months to regain my strength after seeing countless doctors and so much blood work was done for them to really not have an answer except for something viral.  I happened to start reading about probiotic therapy and decided to give it a try. I started with Ensure..now mind you I was only able to tolerate liquids for about a month and slowly I started to eat solids again.  I investigated a probiotic called Good Belly at our local organic store and started on it right away.  The difference that I noticed within a month (early August 2008)was incredible.  I really had more energy and a month after that my hair was becoming less brittle and my skin was developing a healthy glow.  There are probably many women out there who are familiar with probiotics, but if you are not, please consider trying this for yourself.  Probiotics also come in powder and pill form.  I take mine in the form of a drink.  It is little more than a year later and although I deal with Fibromyalgia (more than likely the end result of the attack on my immune system), I am beginning to feel a sense of renewal.  I hope to write more blogs concerning probiotic therapy and supplement use, but this was just an opener to give you an idea of how I got started.  I research information constantly, and hope to post much more information.  Thanks for reading! estatic

    • Rough is not the word Angel, but through God and my family and the help of two doctors in particular, I regained my life.

    • Great post and im so glad you are doing so much better.
Personally I had a story of my own although not to the extreme you had and after countless medications and such I tried a GODSEND called “Culturelle”
Oh my god, after a month of taking it my symptoms improved and to this day i dont have stomach issues anylonger.
I buy the 1 billion count and it comes in a pill form i refrigerate the bottle of pills and i drink it at night before bed with cold water. Warm or hot water kills the healthy live bacteria that eat up the bad.
Its about 19.00 and your pharmacy can usually order it or you can go online and order it.
Its been around for over 30 years and very well known and used.
I have tried many probiotics but this product REALLY does what it says. It keeps IBS at bay destroys yeast infections although i would always recommend following your drs advice of treatment first. The key point is IT KEEPS ILLNESSES AWAY and i havent had a uti in 7yrs. I take a cranberry pill every other day with my vitamins and it works.
Thanks for posting!  Probiotics really do work indeed!

    • probiotics and supplements - i know mary.  i am so sorry to hear how unwell you became.  i so hope your life is less unwell and you have days of wellness. i so agree with taking these, it is my saviour when i get so unwell. with healthy eating, and meds.  i use to have propolis but i have an allergy to it.  i do this for my children and husband as well.  an extra boost to help their ability to recover from any illness.  last year i became so run down with illness i got shingles.  it happens when your immune system gets too low and this weakness allows illnesses to attack.  though shingles is not life threatening now that i have had it i am prone to get it when i fall ill.  a chemist had one day recommended probiotics to me when i had given them my docs prescriptions  for shingles.  i did not at that time realise its importance.  but i do now and i always have a bottle in the house for when  the family needs it.  i was so fortunate that a doctor recognised my illness before it became something more severe.  you take care and if you have time have a look at alternate medicines.heartheartfrownhappy
