Do you think this is a trend of what is to come with our society due to our bad economy?
This is so sad.....so many people would have taken those children! What a waste!

    • That is such a sad story.  There are so many, many places to turn for help these days, from gov’t assistance to charities and churches.  Frankly, I don’t get it, but I suppose my life’s experience is very different from this mother’s background.  It wouldn’t matter how bad my financial picture was, I would never be able to kill my own children.  Don’t nature’s maternal instincts take over at some point?  Like I said, I don’t get it, and probably never could.

    • I wouldn’t blame the economy, clearly something is wrong with this woman.

    • I agree LazyLola...but according to this woman’s statement...she was out of work..and couldn’t support them.  She had no income.....so that was why I asked.
The news tonight said the children were ages 2 and 1...she has a five year as well but that child was not with them..THANK GOD.  She is with the grandmother now.

There are many unemployed parents who get public assistance and where was the father of these kids? The M.E.’s report is that the 2 year old struggled, fighting for his little life. That is heart breaking.

We had a situation in Staten Island a few weeks ago. The police thought it was the 13 year old boy who slit the throats of his siblings and the mother died of smoke inhalation. Come find out the handwritten note I’m Sorry was written by the mother, who killed all 4 of her kids and burned up in the fire.

    • It’s horrible. But I also agree that there is something else wrong with this woman. It will probably come out in the trial. So very sad for those children.

    • OH I totally believe she is very disturbed.  But my question is....do you think because of the economy......because things are bad for so many people...do you think we are going to start seeing more and more of this mental illness?

Not justifying what she did at all....she had so many other options......

    • It’s easy to blame the economy or any other number of things, but why kill the kids and not herself, that’s where I see a cop out. I’ve been struggling for over a year now on a very small disability check, but can’t imagine killing my kids over it.

It’s a sad situation and hope it doesn’t spark a trend, though there have been plenty of other suicides/homicides blamed on the economy.

@mc no, the economy had nothing to do with this it was a just something in her mind to give as a justification of an act of evil.
My heart goes out to the 5 year old, to young to understand fully what his mother did and now he’s lost his siblings.
I would have an easier time believeing that it was the economy if she robbed a gas station or such to feed her kids. then I’ll say it’s the economy in part.
I know the economy is bad and for some worse but not every bad or random act can be blamed on it.I also know that because of the poor judgements that our leaders have made expecially here in california alot of those that need assistance can’t get it because there is nothing to give.but that is where you take them to the firestation or hospital.
God bless those tiny souls. It makes me very sad.
