I am thinking about getting a small tattoo as a symbol of the start of my new life.  I was thinking of a small lotus flower because I like what it symbolizes.  I am just not sure where to put it.  I want it discrete.  I don’t want to have to worry about covering it up.  I just don’t know what part of my body doesn’t plan on stretching anymore.  It is a big decision and pretty permanent so I have been putting a lot of thought into it.  At one point I though of pointing a cat on my shoulders.  I have attached the picture.  Any thoughts???

Hugs-
Dianne

2nd, I have 2 tats. I would probably have more if they didn’t make me sick to get them... my skin reacts like it’s an infection!

As long as you can imagine yourself with whatever you put on  your body in 20, 30, 40 years, then I say go for it! Your body, your choice.

      Oh well.....life goes on.

    • Hi Dianne,
I have 3 tattoos, I really love them. One is on my ankle and the other two are on my back.
All of them have one thing in common: butterflies. I actually plan to blog about my reason for having butterflies in each of my tats.
I just got the third one last month as a birthday, as was my second one last year. Actually, I have 4, one has been covered up.
I don’t think (hope, anyway) that my back will get any larger, which is why I chose to put the majority there. I can cover them when I want to and show them as I please.
They hurt, but they are addictive, I’m already planning my next one. I am including pictures of them for you, I hope they all upload.

I love the butterflies!  I have been wanting to get a tat for years but my husband keeps talking me out of it.  My middle daughter just got a really cool one that she designed herself and it is on her hip - so now I really want to get one.  I wanted to get in on my ankle but I heard that it hurts really bad because of how bony it is - true??  I’m not a wimp, but Katie (my daughter) told me that when the artist was coloring hers in it felt like a hot poker burning her flesh off! ha

I have thought of getting the Chinese symbol for “mother” on my wrist or the word “believe” on the top of my foot - but I don’t know - do think that sounds corny?
      take care!
      Sherri

Everyone says “is that a bug?“, but it’s not. It is a Viking Medallion—a shield with wings. I got it when I left my first husband. I looked through books after books of pictures until I decided on this one. In the end, I chose the shield for my protection and wings for my freedom.

This was my first tattoo... My ex-husband and I went together to get our firsts. It is a purple rose growing through a heart. The original picture had blood dripping from the heart, but I passed on the drippage.

I waited till i was 45 to get my first tatt so i was sure it was what I wanted. I Absolutely LOVE my tat every single day, every time I see it, and its also why I got it on my leg and down my ankle and foot. because If I was goong to pay so much money for this, I wanted to be able to see it, and enjoy it. And I do.  I get so many compliments on it every day.

Its all symbolizes what I wanted as a child and never got, and the dragon symbolizes, fire, protection, and friendship.

      pic

I am already working on my next tattoo for my other leg, ankle and foot now, I can hardly wait.

I got mine on my legs because I wanted to show them off, too. The only time it backfired on me was in corporate America where it wasn’t always “polite” to show tattoos.

I’ve had some bosses who cared, others who couldn’t have cared less. Now, my supervisor has more tatts than I do! lol

And I agree Meshell - your tattoo is very pretty, how long did it take and how much did it hurt - be honest!

Yours is really cute..I love the flowers also... My fairies are very sexy looking. The one I have up by my neck reaches from one shoulder to the other. I still have a lot of work to do on it..The one around my hips I sat for 5 hours with only 2 breaks..and I still had to come back to finish all the fill in..I have a palm tree on my left ankle I got when Jerry and I went to Myrtle Beach in S.C. It's the one on their state license plate with the crescent moon next to it, the one on my right is a Chinese Butter fly and a flower.

    • thanks feathermaye and sheri,

wwell, if I have to, i just wear pants to cover it up, but I haen’t come to that yet. lol.

It was a 2 day 2 part session, sherri.  I did the fairy and Cherry blossoms the first day, and then about 2 weeks later, went back for the rest of it.  Then he redid the parts that needed to be redone, and then we did the dragon, and a few more blossoms dowm on the foot.

for me, it really didn’t hurt that much.  I wanted to do it so much, that th pain was managable.  the worst part was dowm on my foot. But, if you have ever had your eyebrows waxed, and upper lip, and face waxed.  THAT HURTS WORSE than getting a tattoo.

I cry tears when I go to get my waxing , and didn’t shed a tear when I got my tattoo.

      lol..

My tats hurt like HELLLLLLLL and I bled like a stuck pig for the big one. But, it’s weird... Some have already mentioned the ‘addiction’ to getting them. The pain was tolerable because it’s something I really, REALLY wanted.

On my big one, where the wings come together was the most sensitive because it’s such a concentrated area of color. I looked up at the tattoo artist and said “Jeeeeeezus, that hurts!!!” and without missing a beat he said “Yet you paid me to do it. Go figure.”

I loved him a little bit in that moment. LOL!

he did get me one time on the foot, and I did kinda gasp and say Ouch, and he just looked up at me and laughed went right back at it ....

I kind of laughed and called hin a bat-rastard....

whats so great about my tat is that no one else has it, ya know.  its mine, all mine.

and my next one will be the same way.

Thank you for the compliment. I love my tats, they are fun to have but painful to get. My husband likes them , but he would like me to stop getting them. That ain’t gonna happen. :)
I plan to get a few more, including one more on my ankle and more on my back. I’m going back soon to have shading added to the cherry blossoms and more color added to the hibiscus.

My ex husband got the same one on his calf.  Then years went by and I got my daughter’s name in blue really fancy writing around the inside of my ankle with attached blue “wire” circling around to look like an anklette.  The first tattoo I got (the heart with wings) I had covered up with a beautiful angel profile with nice big feathery wings. I love it, and you can’t even tell it’s a cover up.  And my last one, I got for my birthday last year.  I got a Kladdagh (it’s a pair of hands holding a heart with a crown on it.)  It means, love, loyalty and friendship.  I’m a swirl, and have Indian, Irish and German blood in me, so I wanted tattoos to symbolize my heritage.  That one is in the middle of my back on the top.  I get alot of compliments on it, as somebody else mentioned, me and the tattoo artist took bits and pieces of other tattoos and made this one up.  But now, I want to get (on each shoulder) one which symbolizes the “Indian” and on the other shoulder one that symbolizes the “German“.  I am open to any suggestions if anybody can think of anything German, other than beer or a big sausage!  LOL
And I have my belly button pierced.  Not that anybody really sees it, unless I have my bathing suit on, but I just think it’s neat, I like it.

My nickname is smileywoman (smileywoman.com - adult ballet dancer). I just wonder if it’s silly for someone my age (49 in August 2009). I don’t feel my age, and I don’t look my age either. In fact, I believe that age is JUST a number. What do you think?
