So many times, we women tend to "hide our light under a bushel," as the saying goes. We are quick to comment nicely on others, or to lift someone up who may be feeling down about themselves, but do we ever sing our own praises?

This site is a wonderful place for a pick-me-up when you are low. So many great ladies will point out your fine qualities and tell you not to be so hard on yourself. Why don't we allow ourselves to be our own cheerleader? Aren't we allowed to be proud of the good traits we have, the skills we possess?

It seems that if we self-deprecate ourselves, we show a side people want to reach out to. But if we brag, we become the topic of behind-the-back discussions.

SING OUT, ladies!! I want to know what you like about yourself!

Let me state here that this is not in response to anything I have read on Fab 40. This is a general observation on my part.

    • I love the girl I once was, the woman I have become and the woman I have yet to be!
I am caring, giving, talented and determined, smart but still willing to learn, passionate and compassionate, funny, crazy, intuitive, strong but vulnerable. I am perfect yet willing to say I’m flawed.
      I love me some me!

I keep my promises and fulfill my obligations. I don’t like to stand people up or waste their time. I have a high tolerance for pain and I am reliable.

I am diplomatic, preferring to avoid unnecessary conflict in all my relationships.

I am good at earning money from a variety of sources. I stay in good shape because I have a strong need for exercise and I find various ways to achieve it.
I like to be busy and usefully occupied.

Whatever I do I give it my best and my heart.
And I ask God regularly to keep me humble while He uses me.

      much love

    • Great answer! Can I use yours almost50? LOL
I guess I have come to like the me I am. For years, I was the me everyone else wanted me to be. 40 was the year for me to put my foot down, and say like me or leave me.
I have changed my shell, and am now comfortable in my own skin (see my what are your goals post in the Lean For Life group). That means alot. For years, I lived in a pudgy, slouchy body that reeked of “low self esteem.” I just didn’t care, now I am really liking me - and the comments I am getting on how great I look. I treated myself to some Terra Firma Cosmetics as a birthday present. I can’t wait to try them out.
On the inside, I am compassionate, and honest, loving, and creative. I am now much more open about how I feel instead of keeping it all pent up inside.

    • Cindy, this is quite a challenge you have here.
It is very hard for me to be my own cheerleader. I am my own worst enemy.
I’ll give it a whirl girl!
I used to beat myself up because I thought I should be where I wanted to be in life at this age. But, then I realized.
I have been busy for 21 years raising to awesome kids while working full-time.
It doesn’t matter if I’m 80 when I end my journey to where I want to be.
      I’m very loyal
I love with everything I have
Very intelligent, smart, funny, beautiful...yes, I said it! I'm freaking beautiful still working on convincing myself of that.
I know I can be anything I choose to be, I just want to be so many things.
I’m a great mother, sister, daughter, aunt, wife, lover.
Lean on me, when you‘re not strong. I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on.

I am funny as hell, I have a great smile, and I have finally learned to share. I am passionate and I cook great!

I have never been unfaithful to a friend or lover.

I am able to admit when I screw up, and then laugh at myself to get past it.

I am a good writer, but still recognize that there’s a lot of room for improvement. And I try to improve myself (in some way!) every day!

    • I am tall (5‘11“, love that!)
I have a nice shape, even with the extra weight I have gained. Love my te-tas!
I have never met a stranger.
I treat people the way I want to be treated.
The retail worker from years ago in me still recognizes when folks in a store are in need. I have been the arms for quite a few little ladies who can’t reach things on higher shelves.
I always try to find one good thing to say to someone. I have met some incredible people by just saying, at random “Girl, you are wearing that dress“.
I have quite a sense of humor, I try to find the funny but tactful thing to say to break the tension.

I had to include this passage from the great Nelson Mandela. This was part of his 1994 Inaugural speech. It’s one of my favorite passages and it fits this particular topic:
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others“.

    • I agree with Nelson Mandela! Awesome quote.
I tend to have confidence in the things I can do more than who I am. I have begun to move past that.
I am a great cook, and have been begged for several recipes. Even though I catered, I still gave them away.
I love fiercely too, and am extremely passionate, to the point of being obnoxious I have been told, about health. I like to share what I have learned - because I know it can help people improve their quality of life.
I am a rebel, a renegade, a maverick. Don’t tell me I can’t do something. Tenacity is my middle name.
I have a long fuse, and am not easily aggrivated or offended, but at the end of the fuse is dynamite.
I have a beautiful smile. I have beautiful hair (even if it isn’t redfrown ) and I have a knock-out figure (minus the ta-tas).
Hey we could almost use this post for affirmations. :)

So I am humbly write all the gifts He has given me
For His glory and to sing His praises:

I am talented, smart, compassionate, truthful, loyal, loving, kind, gentle, considerate, thoughtful, a quick learner and thinker, a dynamic speaker (not in public sense, rather in a sense of able to convince; transfer complexity into simplicity)
I ranked 1st many years in a row among 300+ students in my competitive High School classes in Hong Kong) I also passed my professional exam on first try when others flunk easily.
I am strong yet try to be humble.
I instill peace, love, hope and harmony within my household and people surround me.
I am determined with a positive attitude. “Nothing is impossible to God” so I don’t give up and keep up a good fight. I was a single mom with $30K in debt due to my ex, yet, I rose and raised an awesome loving child. I am a loving wife, daughter, grand daughter, family member and friend.
I am honest to the bone.
I am like a volcano, erupted and now I could not stop.
I am beautiful, blessed with inner and outer beauty - I stand out in most party from the way I carry myself.
I am humorous if you understand my humors. I laugh at myself together with friends for my ascent and misused of English language.
      I am spiritual.
I am emotional - I feel others pain and joy easily.
      --------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, again, all glory and honor to my creator.  I am nothing but because of Him, I am something valuable.
