Ladies!  Is anyone out there interested in losing weight in conjunction with Lent...or simply losing weight because it is the healthy thing you need to do?

Now is the time.  I am going to be upfront and personal during this Lent season and share with you my plan.  I am going to give up red meat, sugar, salt, and dairy.  Add a little exercise, start golf again next month, and add a before picture soon.

I need to lose 45 pounds and it may not be done in 6 weeks but I plan on it happening.

Anyone that is with me, let me know!

L. Denise

I don’t have a lot to loose but just need to stay focused.
I stopped taking my thyroid med. in November and need to keep my metabolism from slowing down.
I could always use cutting something out.  I am a sweets junkie..cookies, cakes, chocolate.  I can take the added sugar out for six weeks.

I don’t want to end up like my mother.  My doctor says if I lose the rest of my weight I can stop taking all my meds.  Since I am only 46, I really need to do this.  I gave up sweets for Lent.  So how does this work?  I am new to the site.  Do we report in everyday, once a week??????  Thanks for the challenge I am sure this will help me a great deal.     Angie

I’m down for this. The support is much needed. I need to shed at least 40lbs. I’ve done it b4, but that was b4 hubby, child, business, homeownership, and other stressors (good, bad or indifferent). I’m loving the ride, but need to add health and wellness to the priority agenda. I don’t eat red meat, pork, or fast foods. My diet is pretty good, need to add regular exercise and a better eating schedule to the process. I will give up simple sugars, dairy, and bread for lent (pray for me!).

Looking forward to checking in regularly.

      Peace,

    • Yeah!!!!  20 wonderful Fab40 Ladies that want to lose weight, look great, love their curves (hidden or not), and be sexy and confident for themselves.

So, forgive me for lighting the fire and seeming to disappear.  Corporate drama almost sucked me away but I am back and always committed to you.

Ok, your tools for this challenge is a journal (pretty or plain) and your computer.

So let’s do this first.  We are not going to be the biggest loser because it is not a contest.  I want everyone to be the healthiest that they can be according to your own measuring stick.  Be honest with yourselves.

Exercise 1) Can you say that you love looking at yourself...no makeup, hair brushed back, no jewelry?  Can you look at you and love you?  (I thought this was about slimming down!)  This is about slimming down but food and attitude go together.  Being healthy increases ooverall healthiness INSIDE AND OUT!

Even though I am busy I want to help and motivate you to be wonderfully, beautifully, and fabulously made every day.  It is not about the make-up you wear but the condition of your skin.  It is not how many pounds you lost this week but the energy that you gained.  It is not about depriving yourself of a little something something every now and then but it is about X food makes me feel like Y.  This is not about who is the slimmiest sexy...because we all have that in us.  I just want us all to be and feel slimmer and sexier than we do now.  It builds our own confidence and brings out so much in us.

Exercise 2) Write down how you really feel about your body now and how you want to feel about your body.

Exercise 3) Write down what you plan to give up for 6 weeks and realistically how many pounds you want to lose by May 23.

Everyone can keep their items private.  There is no pressure to share your private thoughts, however, I would love to hear about your successes and a short “how you achieved” your goal.

As promised, I will share with you and I hope it is encouraging and helps you along the way.  If anyone needs a boost or an ear, you can call me at any time 202-302-3213.

Thank you and look for my first post!

    • Hello everyone!

Ok, so you know from my first 1st post that I am going to give up red meat, sugar, salt, and dairy (and fried foods as well).  I need to  exercise and start golf again next month. I need to lose 45 pounds and eat healthier period.

Before I was really sick, I was 135-140 lbs and then I went to 170-180 lbs.  I thought the surgery would be helpful but during my recovery, I enjoyed no work and just eating and sleeping...and walking around when I wanted to.  So, a year has past and I need to be better but work has stressed me and relationships have drained me and my food, my precious food has never forsaken me.  Oh Lord, the food is a wonderful creation.  I love it and it loves me!

      Well, read on.

      1) I don’t love the way I look right now and quite frankly it is depressing.  In the mirror my face doesn’t look back but my body is another story.

      2) I am disappointed in my body and think, “I never thought this could happen to me” and I want to think “hmmm I look good, now let me go out and turn some heads” which I haven’t been doing in a while.  I have gotten some sincere attention from those who enjoy my conversation and see the real me, which is great.  I know that deep down, I don’t like men to be attracted to me first by my looks, rather have the attitude “and you look good too!” so here I am.

      3) By May 23 before my conference, I want to lose 20 pounds.  Now I am a back patient because I will start and then stop something and I have already blown my Lent commitment and I am sorry because I ate meatloaf last night.  That cannot happen again.  I know I am not going to get anywhere and it just depresses me more and I am tired and sluggish.  Part of that was sheer laziness and not wanting to put forth the extra effort.  But if I eat better my fat butt wouldn’t be so lazy.  (Yes, I just yelled at myself.)

So today, I haven’t eaten yet and I am going to get a salad (which I can do everyday for lunch) and though I am craving grease right now, I may add some vegetables too.

I will check in later this evening and tell you how I did.

My before surgery picture is my profile picture.  I have to get my Inaugural picture off my camera.

    • Hi everyone...

I too have not been feeling so good about my appearance...I have always had a weight problem but since I quit smoking seven months ago my weight has skyrocketed...and it has left me more depressed...I find myself isolating myself more because I don’t want to be seen...I hardly have any clothes that fit...I have no life whatsoever...my source of socializing is on the computer...and personally I think that is really sad...

It is hard for me to admit this but I think in order for me to make this work I need to be honest to me and to everyone else...I have a tendency to make everyone believe that everything is fine when reality it isn’t...

So there it is...me as I am now...How I have been feeling lately...

    • Hi All,

Boy do I need a complete overhauling.  I don’t desire to have the body, I once had when I was in my 20s and most of my 30s, but I do desire to shed some extra baggage, for me, not for my husband or the next person on the street who sees me, but for me.  Thank heavens for my tall frame, that helps to hide all the extra.  I am not comfortable about the way I look and have set my mind to do something about it.  I know it can work with determination, as I had done it before.  I did the “no white” diet and it worked wonders....“no white rice, bread, sugar, flour” nothing white.

I am very discipline in what I eat, but my biggest area or should I say lack of is exercising and I know that it is very important to make this work.  I am eager to start, but will start on Monday, reason being, a really good friend of mine is coming to town, her and the family are throwing a Fiesta for their dad...she is also staying with me while she is here, so with the Fiesta and my entertaining, it is all about eating, partying, drinking, dancing.  For those of the hispanic community and those who knows, understand, it will be all about food, food, food....

Will check in again on Monday....
      Good luck everyone.

I am starting tomorrow.  You can do...walking is exercising...take a walk in the morning so that you and your friend can have some early morning girl time.

Karyn, you have been on my mind.  I too just blew off an event tonight that I go to once a month and it is because of my weight.  Thank you for holding my hand virtually.

I am isolating myself a little and with the unhappiness at work, I am just extra stressed.  I am excited about my new ventures but am worrying about what they think and how I look.  I am concerned about seeing my friends...I don’t think I look that different but I do.

Karyn, I am here for you and you are so not alone.

Ladies, no matter what, no matter how busy...if nothing else...eat more vegetables and take that walk TODAY!  We can do this together.

I am not overly full and I feel pretty good.  I only drank water and tea...no wine!  That is an accomplishment in itself.  Yeah, I am going to cut back on the wine too.

How was your first day SC women?

For the weekend, do an activity if you cannot exercise that you enjoy and get that body moving.  Make a sincere effort to eat better.  I know it’s tough...and for me brunch is my vice but I am going to do my best and beat the temptation.

I have been successful with my water wooooooohoooooo I drink at least 4-16oz. bottles of water daily usually one after each of my protein drinks and on throughout the day. I’m not feeling anything different far as loss but my mental state is good and I’m focused on doing this until I see and feel a physical difference. If you are using weight resistance in your exercise program remember also that muscle weighs more than fat so if you get on the scale it may show you are heavier but that is because you have gain healthy muscle which will also help you to loose the weight.
      Good luck everyone!

Karyno, when I do something bad and slip up I try to do something really good for the next few days...salad, fruits, vegetables only.

Today I did breakfast...had to do the bacon to counter my cocktails.  This only happens 1x per quarter or every other month.

Tonight I had to go to a birthday party and didn’t eat or drink to much.  I don’t feel heavy or full or tired.  I feel good and part of that was my endorphins.  I laughed, danced, lived, and loved tonight.  WOW!  I haven’t done that in a long time.  wow...i haven’t done that in a long time.

Ok folks LDenise needs to get more of a life.

Huge project at work so I’ve went to work early, skipped lunch and stayed late. Also, a pretty big project for school. Monday I had a banana, a cup of soup and about 8 cups of coffee all day. Today I had a banana and yogurt and for lunch I had a bag of baked lays potato chips. It is 8pm and I hate to eat this late so I am just going to eat a salad.  I am going to do better tomorrow.frown
